STROKE: Chris Knox Tribute Album On The Way!

A group of talented musicians are coalescing to give ol’ Chris Knox some bedside cheer in the form of a tribute cover album (We see you there, Jay Reatard and we love your fuckin’ hair!) The album, titled Stroke, will feature artwork by Chris and fellow Dwarf Alec Bathgate with Knox covers performed by:
“David Kilgour, The Mint Chicks, Lou Barlow, Graeme Downs, Guided By Voices, The Mountain Goats, Jay Clarkson, Martin Phillips, Jay Reatard, Yo La Tengo, Lambchop, Shane Carter, Pumice, Alec Bathgate, Will Oldham, Jeff Mangum, and Bill Callahan.”
The following artists were also mentioned as contributors in an earlier post:
“Sky Green Leopards, Superchunk, David Pine, Scott Kannenburg, The Able Tasmans, The Tokey Tones, and Psychatrone Rhonedakk”
I wonder if anyone is going to cover “Sympathy For The Cripple”? (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.)
in other good news, Chris’s buddy Roy Martin reports that the medical progress has been slow, but promising:
“Chris is re-learning the skills that have been affected by the stroke. The stroke has affected the speech & language centers of Chris’ brain & the right side of his body. It looks like it could be a long recovery process, but Chris is still Chris with the same sense of humour & joy & love & taste & smarts & appreciation of the absurdity of life that he has always had. Chris’ attitude to life remains positive, and he is currently a big fan of electric toothbrushes, iPods & poker. He also still delivers a good tune.”
Speaking of iPods, MGMT was scheduled to bring The Tall Dwarfs stateside as the best opening act of the year, but for obvious and depressing reasons, can no longer do so. MGMT should be commended for putting on a recent benefit show, with all proceeds going directly to Chris’s rehabilitation. We’re bummed because MGMT tried to do something nice for someone deserving, only to have some fuckbutt swipe one of their iPods. And at a Chris Knox benefit! He loves iPods! NO GOOD. Who could want a bunch of goofy dance play-lists that bad, anyway? Please send your extra iPods to MGMT. (And Buddyhead. Our “Illiterate DJ i-Fund” needs some stocking. Travis needs I-Pods, DO IT! Hookers be dropping drinks on that JAMC.)
And don’t forget to buy the latest album from Chris’s band, The Nothing, titled A Warm Gun. With every purchased copy of this album, or any Tall Dwarfs or Chris Knox classic, another neuroreceptor is reconnected in his brain. Get your wallets out. We want to see him tour. A Warm Gun can purchased here. A full review is on the way.
