Soundgarden officially reunited on New Years Eve

Soundgarden have given their fans a New Year’s present and have stated they are reuniting after 12 years of absence. Frontman and career self-destroyer Chris Cornell confirmed it via his Twitter account:

The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!

The band has also opened a new website, http://www.soundgardenworld.com/.

After his last steaming pile of songs, we hope the other Soundgarden members pay attention and take care of the band, preventing Cornell from delivering yet another world-embarassing album, like his last one. Is this a real, musical reunion, or are they just money hungry? “Those trendy scarfs don’t pay themselves!” might have stated Chris Cornell about the subject.

  • Kim Thayil was better off contributing to various Southern Lord projects every couple of years..

  • Great pic. Chris looks like he’s just had removed the adult contemporary cock he’s been smoking on for the last 13 years. Sadly, it’s too late. There’s no coming back from that abomination he called a solo career.

  • Such a shame. The guy can’t sing like he used to. It’s going to be a damn shame to see SG suck their way through this reunion.

  • Even though Chris Cornell has been sucking a dong lately, I think with Kim Thyll, Ben Shepard, and Matt Cameron all together making music, it really can’t be that bad. Anyone know if they’re writing new material, or just jamming old stuff? Either way, I’m gonna give it a listen. Soundgarden isn’t given the credit they’re owed for making really great, dark rock music. I just really hope they don’t fuck it up.

  • Would be good to see them again but only cause no one rocks anymore.. Saw them enough in the 90s but I cannot imagine any new material, in fact they just shouldn’t… Cornell is more far gone than Corgan, there’s no coming back…

  • I have hope. I only wish we could see this type of performance again

  • I’m pretty sure I just made the same face that Cornell is making after reading that headline.

  • this is not going to be good.

  • i love soundgarden and at least they had the sense to quit while they where ahead instead of ruining everything they’ve done, but i doubt any new material will be any good

  • this is good news. seeing soundgarden live again will be awesome stop with the douchewankery you naysayers

  • id like to see foofighters, aic and soundgarden and pearl jam do a tour together.

  • I agree with commodore sixty four.

  • damn, why cant it just be more TAD-garden

  • @mrgrunge

Pearl Jam AND Soundgarden? Matt Cameron isn’t a robot (like Josh Freese), no way he could handle playing two sets for two different bands.

I know Chris is trying to make up for that shit-tastic solo career but I’m not forgiving him unless he does a dramatic reading of “Spoonman” to close out every set.

  • Soundgarden?? Who gives a shit? Reunions are lame, let it die. Chris Cornell is far too busy making tampon commercial music for this amount to anything but a quick cash-in.

  • Oh sweet. Now I’ll be 100 percent jaded instead of 95 and a half.

  • I don’t know… Chris Cornell definitely went off the high dive into the adult contemporary deep end. Oh the other hand, based on the stuff that Kim Thayil’s done since Soundgarden broke up, he still smokes a lot of drugs and has gotten even weirder. Hopefully he’ll crank shit loud enough to drown out the Ed Hardy influence.

I am gonna go ahead and assume that this reunion happened at Cinnabon, exactly as The Onion reported: http://www.theonion.com/content/news/soundgarden_inadvertently_reunites

  • TAD-GARDEN! Haaaa that was FUNNY

  • im with Eljeffe on this one..R&B?Timbaland?all his beeatches and ho’s?dont think so squire.good luck and keep on trucking.

i wonder if ben shepards gonna spit on everyone again.

    “hey guys!*spit*just like old times*spit*”

    yeah bring that back.

  • Someone get John McBain back in Monster Magnet.

  • Not sure what to think of this reunion…

I think I’d rather see Kim Thayil following the example of Ben Shepherd in doing some work with Mark Lanegan on one of his solo records.

If Matt Cameron left Pearl Jam they’d rival Spinal Tap in terms of the amount of drummers they’ve had!

  • this’ll be good is he starts pounding beers in cut off jeans again.

  • I kinda maybe wanna suck Cornell Cock.

  • the Fluid need to get back together

  • Shut Up Already on Chris Cornell haterade! You & Trent Reznor can go to Hell. That Cornell dude was branching out musically and taking chances-about the only chance you’ll ever take is to NOT use a condom when having prison sex! (I have to say that crazy pic shows off CC’s beautiful blue eyes-blue as Cobain’s!)

  • thedevilsfavoriteson do you really think soundgarden is gonna trot timbaland out on stage for a rendition of get on the snake? who the fuck cares what chris’s solo albums were like this is a SOUNDGARDEN reunion with SOUNDGARDEN songs and chucktorso who gives a shit about a soundgarden reunion? cool people that’s who

  • Any rocker whose songs are featured on One Tree Hill should lose his street creds. But just for Kim Thayil, I’ll forgive you Chris. C’mon guys, it’s Soundgarden. There’s Pavement, AiC, Pearl Jam, Blur, etc One more Britpop and grunge and it’s officially the 90’s.

  • Bet ol’ thayil’s gonna have to tune down hella low for this one. There’s no way that douchewhistle’s gonna hit those notes otherwise.

  • hey illac
    what’s wrong with getting paid?

  • Cornell’s voice now sounds like he has been gargling hot tar for the last century.

  • why the fuck were you watching one tree hill?

  • I can’t believe the negativity surrounding the news. Have ye no faith for Mr. Cornell? So he took a few risks, that some feel didn’t pay off. Regardless, the guy was at his best with Soundgarden. Gve the guy his due. I am fully confident that the live show will be ridiculously awesome. You KNOW the old school stuff from Louder Than Love and Badmoterfinger will be coming out. Cornell and the boys will bring it. I cannot wait.

  • WTH are you guys smoking?

Chris voice is better as ever, dont believe, just listen to behind the wheel video in youtube

Sure, he made some heavy mistakes since 97, but you can’t deny the creativity in his first solo work and in Audioslave – 3 different albums, 3 different styles, not a bad song.

“Carry On” and that Timbaland crappy album were downhill… but i bet he wants to get back to his roots and rock again properly.

Everyone is entitled to experiment and error, they just took different paths and now coming back again (possibly).

I see this as really good news honestly, would love to see Soundgarden studio albums finally increase in numbers since 97.

Soundgarden has a name to live by, i doubt Mr. Cornell and the rest will let us down.

    Have some faith ffs
