Sonic Youth – “Sacred Trixter”

So Sonic Youth are back with a new record called “The Eternal” on Matador. Sonic Youth have always been kinda over rated in my eyes. Sure I could put together a 10-15 comp of rad songs from their 60 year career, but I couldn’t tell you the last time I was able to sit through an entire Sonic Youth record. But we do have a Sonic Youth fan here at Buddyhead in the form of Spencer. Dude is AMPED on this new record! I asked him to review the new Sonic Youth, cuz he’s the only dude I know that has a Sonic Youth tattoo but I guess he’s too busy making his own music right now. Email him at Spencer@buddyhead.com and ask him what’s crackin’ in his world and what his thoughts on the new Sonic Youth record are. In the meantime while you’re waiting for Spence to write you back with his review of the new Sonic Youth album, check out the band’s attempt at a music video.

Sonic Youth update for 2009:

1) Yes, Kim Gordon still has weird Madonna arms (aka man arms).

2) And YES, Thurston Moore still doesn’t like The Rolling Stones… don’t believe that one? Go ahead and read Stevie Chick’s “Psychic Confusion: The “Sonic Youth” Story: The “Sonic Youth” Story”. The opening of the book is Thurston staring at a Stones poster backstage crying about how he doesn’t like The Stones! That my friends is why I never really gave a shit about Sonic Youth. I’d way rather listen to Mudhoney, even the grey haired Dinosaur JR or Teenage Fanclub over these fun vacuums. But that’s just me.

  • I can dig it.

  • this band is boring and this thurston character looks like a 50 year old man child

  • shitty single sweet album

  • Probably Thurston Moore doesn’t like what the Stones have BECOME, but that’s not to say he doesn’t think the Stones were a great band. I read Lee Ranaldo saying something along those lines. Personally, I agree. The Stones are milking their past. Their tours are corporate in the extreme, the set lists are predictable and consist almost entirely of 40 year old songs. Compare live performances from 40 years ago to now. The power of the Stones live is nowhere close to what it was.

  • Oh yeah – The Eternal is excellent.
