(Who is the dick head in this photo?)

I don’t get live DJ culture. Excuse me if I’m missing something here, but I don’t see anything interesting in watching one or two cats at a mixer with Serato on their Mac bob their head up and down to x amount of beats per minute. You know the drill. We have all seen that crap… Boring. Yawn. Snooze fest. Now, I think artists labeled as DJ’s, such as DJ Urine, Otto Von Schirach, or Rahzel’s JS-1 really bring it on so many levels. That is some interesting, if not that, creative stuff. Look, I’m not being a poop and talking shit like a lot of the naysayers who commented on my previous blog post suggest I am doing, or have so graciously done to to me. But I’m just stating my opinion, and that is of which I can’t wrap my head around things like you tube footage of thousands of people being so into such a run of the mill, if that, “live performances”. I would want to see live music, and appreciate the talent that goes into making thus sounds, if I paid to get into a venue or festival. I know, I know, I’m just some faggot who surrounds himself around good musicians since I possess little to no musical talent, as I have been told in my previous blog here on Buddyhead. You are right, I can’t DJ. I mean, I have great taste in my opinion, and I can play rad stuff and mess with programs like Tractor. But man, I am part of the working class and well, if I’m paying for something happening live such as music, it better be the real deal. For all I know, some of those cats are checking their email and or ordering pizza on line. Today DJ AM died. Sucks for him. I’m being serious here, friends, it really does. I’m not all that familiar with his work, but I do and can appreciate him working with a live drummer, such as Travis Barker. Yeah I know, Blink is one of the biggest turds in modern music (again only my opinion, I’m sure there are plenty of people who can “prove” me wrong), and he presents himself as sort of a douche in the public eye, but that dude is a solid drummer which in a sense, ads to a pretty impressive live element for DJ AM, who is sick in his own right. So this is just a simple blog to say RIP to that guy.

  • Otto Von is the fucking man!

  • isnt your band signed to a label who’s run by a guy who lives off of the sheep that feed this new shit fest “dj culture”? im not hating by any means “just stating the obvious”

  • Photos are up now.

  • JP the “blogger.” I like it.

  • otto blows all these other turds away.. ~waves~ hello second generation

  • Justin, every blog gets better. I know it’s only been two posts so far but I can tell from the response so far this is a classic combination. Justin Pearson + Buddyhead = everyone is bummed.

  • just checkin’ our yr blog for shits n’ giggles, will be back for more… fuck the haters. batter up!

  • dj culture is about alot of people being in the same room together listening to the same songs together. The creator of the songs stands above the crowd to see how many people like the music. At my first rave infected mushroom had a live guitarist. Aaron went to a rave with the cattle decap drummer who loaned his drum set to tommy lee. but yeah its just an accessory to whats already been stored. I’m sure there could be alot of people playing keyboards/ pushing buttons for a whole entire song to make it somewhat alive but still dead..

  • @rebecca nolan

I play keyboards/ push buttons for a while entire song to make it VERY alive in my DJ Culture Project “GGR RTORT”.

  • what makes you “working class”? are you making minimum wage or something? aren’t you an entrepreneur, like, a member of the petite bourgeoisie?

not talking shit, honestly curious about what you think “working class” means. its not some lifestyle choice, its a reflection of ones relation to capital.

  • Geigor Retort sucks. from what i heard you should focus more on pushing buttons to create things like “resumes”. sorry, “just stating the obvious”

  • jesus christ, duh.

alxndr, working class = working 6 nights a week at bars to pay the bills ie. pay to run three one g, pay my mortgage, and pay to go on tour and play music. if you need a copy of my 2008 tax return form, please let me know.

    anything else?

  • ha! woah sass!

im sure there’s no need for the taxes, thats pretty confidential. im sure you wouldnt want to disburse anything that could hurt you to a nasty shit talking world whos ready to pounce on anything you have to say.

besides your just “some faggot who surrounds himself around good musicians” and “possess little to no musical talent” as you “have been told in my previous blog here on Buddyhead”

its ok to have an opinion, as i jesus christ know more than most….because im “hung like a horse” get it?!?!?!

man im so provocative, clever, witty and not afraid to get in people’s faces with my written antics, thats why you and i get along, justin……we’re just 2 fags

  • hey can you do some carpentry on my pad? its old, from 1911. we can trade work for records that dont sell.

  • of course what are good friends for?

i would love to take those records off your hands, the ones you decided to put out because you have good taste in music which has crafted your opinion and outlook on music today (especially the dj culture) because your “some faggot who surrounds himself around good musicians”

as “history” has noted my father was a carpenter which in turn makes me one. guilty by association, right?. you can learn alot by not actually reading a book that is easy to mock (thank you for clarifying and closing the chapter on that whole mess, justin). father forbid, i get my hands on some wood and dont know what im doing……but we all know i know how to handle some wood, if you know what i mean. *wink wink*

hey maybe later you could even nail me..get it!?!??!

  • Justin,

The Locust S/T “Discography” on vinyl went for about 50 bucks on ebay a while back. If you got some more of those….I’m just saying. The split seven inches on colored vinyl that Gold Standard put out might be worth more due to rarity as well.

  • aw. Geigor, your music is sweet. I’ve been watching your videos;) But I wouldn’t say you were a dj or have any culture.

  • what about those man is the bastard / locust 7”? i have no idea how the ebay market works but i got a couple of those and im willing to part with one if it means i can make some green, you know us clergy men

i also found this video all leather, soooo good

  • Is this a joke? Or are you being extremely hypocritical? If you want to see real djing with scratching and live performances yeah go see somebody else. But for me it’s just listening to some good ass electro music to rock out and dance to. It’s like a big party and it’s just for fun to go see them live. I don’t think I’m going to see some mind blowing performance. And yeah your signed by Steve Aoki and did tracks with the bloody beetroots and congorock, so how do you not get it when really you’re a part of it? How can you make fun of what DJ AM does live and then say try to pay your respects to him? I think they all deserve a little more than that.

  • dear andrew, do you need me to hold your hand when you read? do us all a favor and please re-read what i wrote. thanks dude.

socko, never heard of a s/t locust discography. sorry.

dear internet, just to clarify, yes, all leather is on dim mak. just as some girls were on epitaph. uh, being on those labels does not mean im gonna run out and buy albums by rancid or pennywise, or even steve aoki. do i respect and consider steve or brett gurewitz, yes. very much so. so if you want to talk about the turds on those labels, please go ahead. i have no need to comment on them. if you want to talk about rad shit like noam chomsky, grinderman, sage francis, then lets talk. i respect the bloody beetroots and i think what dj am did was rad (already said that for those of you who missed it).

  • ps. jesus could do all this magical shit, i mean he is the “reason for the season”. but why the hell could he not get off a couple 2×4’s? is this some sort of practical joke to challenge humanity?

  • its called the ultimate guilt trip my dear. how else could you get someone to follow you unless you make it seem like you put yourself through so much pain at their expense for their benefit.

you know what im talking about because you work 6 nights a week “at bars to pay the bills ie. pay to run three one g,”(a label you claim sells no records) pay your mortgage, and pay “to go on tour and play music” (which is supposedly talentless).

as i’ve stated before we have alot in common. we’re both cocksuckers

    ps.
I <3 Nick Cave (jesus just got 2002 on your ass)

  • Hey Justin, just wanted to say again that you guys were awesome at the show in pittsburgh (despite the lack of people, anything that isnt played on the radio doesn’t really get promoted over here like it should). It would have definetely been cooler to see somebody like Aids Wolf or Made In Mexico or Quintron play, instead of the other 3 bands that played before All Leather. The Chinese Stars especially, I was pretty bummed when I found out they were playing with you guys the day after pittsburgh.

Not sure if you remember me, but I’m the long haired kid with glasses who was all nervous to talk to you guys at first. I mentioned how I wanted to remix an all leather song (with the permission of you 3 of course) and nathan had sent me the message about listening to something I had remixed first, back in janurary. Anyhow, I did like you said after the show and sent you guys a link to my page through the myspace inbox incase you guys would forget. Never heard back though, so here’s the link just incase the message didn’t get through. Dealing with that myspace mail beta shit is awful.

    myspace.com/microwaveskilledjcochran

Even if you guys don’t dig it, you will still have my utmost respect & I will appreciate the fact that time was taken to check it out.

    p.s. – Hung Like A Horse EP = SICK

  • god is american, so how can his son be from nazareth…? don’t get me wrong i love the song “love hurts” but your name just sounds crazy! am i missing something?

by the way! i like your blog(s) justin.

  • jesus, just because i work at a gay bar does not mean that i suck cock. im straight dude (sorry guys).

  • oh! ok cool because i didn’t mean that as a derogatory term at all. thanks for setting the record straight.

  • god hates fags

  • jesus is god.. christian and gay is really ok :)

  • thanks for the thoughtful philosophical view on something that makes the most sense i’ve ever heard in my life, rebecca. i couldn’t have said it better myself. its incredible that these weren’t lyrics in an episode of barney the dinosaur. im sure there was a lot of confusion on the issue of christianity and being gay but it looks like you calmed the storm…….gracias mija

  • Justin,

It’s pretty old, before Plague Soundscapes and the first two songs on it are “Moth-eaten Deer Head” and “Brand New Set Of Teeth”. It may not be a discography but it is s/t. Gold Standard Laboratories put it out. Catalog # GSL15

  • Nevermind, I’m dumb. It’s actually just the first Locust LP. The guy at the record store told me it was a discography of songs from out of print 7″s when I bought it. I hate being misinformed….

  • what fucking ever. the storm is bigger than you think, asshole. my cousin almost died from the confusion. you will never be jesus you fucking faker. and i’m not your spic daughter. learn engrish. this blog is about techno you shit.

  • im sorry i did not want to hear about your cousin, thats a bummer (seriously though, that sucks) but thank you for bringing it up and then turning this whole blog onto a sour note and then trying to bring the rave back. white power

  • wait wait wait… justin pearson? of the locust? on buddyhead? isnt that like dogs and cats living together? Im not complaining, im just… weirded out?

Also, dj’s who scratch and make original songs out of samples etc, can be pretty rad. Dj’s who play cool shit -ala buddyheads own Travis – can be pretty rad. Dj’s who play, and ruin, other peoples music while singing over it or banging on symbols and other lame attempts to make it look they have anything to do with songs coming out of the speakers are really realllllllly fucking wack. Why does that shit get a following? Why? That shit needs to die off right quick. Its embarrasing.

Its bad enough they get paid to make Itunes playlists but the fact that they have fans is just mind numbing. Its not that I think it’s not worthwhile because they dont play guitars or drums like “real bands.” I mean i make noise music and sample rock on laptops. I can appreciate the talent or at the vary least the creativity needed to force music out of any piece of equipment. Be it a guitar or a laptop or otherwise. But dj’s of this kind are just fucking lame. Just play the fucking song! dont mash it up with beyonce. and dont! just fucking dont sing over it!!

    end rant.

  • Well, there goes my remix of Single Ladies.

  • Justin, how do you feel about this shirt?

    http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/308/332233462l.jpg

  • Justin and Travis is strange enough, but djam dies and the first obit (and a left-turny poignant one at that!) i come across is from THE DUDE FROM THE LOCUST?!? Wild and Crazy Kids!
    damn becca- you races.

  • my fallen angels and i love you. see you soon. 666

    ;] lawlz

  • never heard of false grind.

  • fuck insect warfare. over dramatic douchebags

  • djs suck. Who would of thought that people who make money looking retarded and playing itunes “real loud”

  • Wow, you can’t write a fucking sentence. That is some interesting, if not that, creative stuff.
Read a book. I want that two and a half minutes of my life back.
You can do, it, kid! I believe in you! So do your fifteen yur ole fanbase!
