Refused are NOT reforming despite what NME says, members have NEW band!

Dear NME -

This article HERE you posted about Refused reforming and touring is wrong. A reunion is not happening according to singer Dennis Lyxzen who just emailed me saying “No, we are not reforming. Me and David are going on tour next week with our new Hardcore band Ac4 – sleeping on kids floors and playing doordeals, that seems to be more in line with what we deserve… haha”. If you need more info than that, you can also read “A Letter From Dennis” posted on Refused’s myspace page:

“So, there is something really abstract about thousands and thousands of people being into somthing that I did years and years ago. Although we all move on in life I would like to thank you all for being my friends and for being into the music and the ideas, means alot. Anyway, I just wanted to do some blatant self promotion hoping that someone might be interested in what I am doing right now. Since Refused broke up I’ve been busy spreading politics and loud rock music with the (international) Noise Conspiracy.

But the real reason that I am writing you right now is that on the 16th of October I am releasing a record with my other band The Lost Patrol Band. The record is called Automatic and is being released on Burning Heart Records (no Us Label or release date yet). Please check out new songs and a brand new video on:

www.myspace.com/lostpatrolband

The vinylversion will be released on My own little Punklabel that I started about two years ago so if you want to check out some great retro punk please check out:

I am also doing a podcast things on the Ny Våg records site where I talk shit and play old and new punk / powerpop and Hardcore music, so if you want to know what I am into please give it a listen.

There’s rumours about me and David doing something together next, yeah… I will keep you posted on that. Something might happen.

Once again Thanks for being my friends and I hope that you have the time, desire or energy to check out what I am doing right now. Would be really nice.

Talk to you soon.

Arm yourself to Live, now more than ever.

Love
Dennis”

Ok, that’s outta the way…. Now here’s the real information you need…

Meet Sweden’s newest and best hardcore band, AC4 (http://www.myspace.com/ac4hc). No that’s not Dave Navarro up there, these dudes are from Europe, live in igloos and they just don’t know any better about the whole shirtless band photos… I promise! I’ve never been a big hardcore music fan in general (the shows always seem like there was way too many dudes together and not enough girls) but if something is good I don’t care what genre it is. Keep in mind I’m not scared to curl up and spend some quality time with a great polka record if someone tells me it’s slammin’, cuz I’m well rounded and open. You can’t threaten me with the raging good time that is, AC4 – the band. So far I’ve only heard “Let’s Go To War”, which they have streaming on their Myspace page HERE (I didn’t know people still had Myspace pages – OMG that’s so 2009) and then “This Is It”, “It’s Over In A Second” and “Let’s Go To War” (again) from the video below. It was shot live in Mullsjö on June 19 2009 on Dennis’ lawn, with the rehearsal place/studio in the background, where the forthcoming album was recorded. I’m stoked, come to the states… Dios will open and do all punk rock covers.

AC4 reminds me of a cross between Minor Threat and Bad Brains with a Swedish dude screaming about what I’m assuming is cool shit… you know some angry political rants with the we ain’t gonna take it vibe.

Plus now that they got David to put on some of his clothes, shaved off his hippy locks and let him rip on the bass (instead of ripping on the drums) he looks like an English Nick Oliveri. Which is fuckin’ rad, I’m scared of that dude!

And you most likely already know a few records from at least the discographies of two outta the four members (if not 4/4). On vocals and dance-moves you’ll find the very charming not to mention energetic Dennis Lyxzén, who you might know as the singer of The International Noise Conspiracy & Refused. And on bass guitar is the intense and at times very intimidating David Sandström who beat the shit outta the drums when he was in Refused and was one of the main songwriters for the Text album. For the record Text is a very beautifully weird album that features basically everyone in Refused (except for Dennis who left to form INC) playing songs that could have been on the next Refused record, had they not split up a year before. Point is, here’s the line up:

Dennis Lyxzén – Vocals
David Sandström – Bass
Karl Backman – Guitar
Jens Nordén – Drums

Upcoming shows:

Apr 8 2010     8:00P Hafenklang     Hamburg

  • My dreams of seeing Refused live are once again shattered. They need to turn the amps up to 11 and blast everyone’s faces off with “The Deadly Rhythm”. Then they can go back to whatever else it was they were trying to do with their musical careers.

  • As much as I would have liked to been at a Refused show back in the day, I’m glad they aren’t reforming. It would be against the whole idea of Refused and it would definitely be cheesy and forced (see: RATM-2K9)
