Small Long Beach label, White Noise, are releasing a brand-new split 12″ with Primal Scream and RTX! Feels good putting out something that cool, don’t it boys? Make sure I get a copy for review, kids! White Noise is also home to Tweak Bird, Jail Weddings and others, but this post is about this Primal Scream and RTX 12-inch split. Both Primal Scream and RTX dish out their versions of classic covers on this thick piece of limited wax. The press release says that both of the exclusive covers were recorded during the Winter 2008 Primal Scream – RTX tour/drug binge of the United Kingdom. You know “Fatty”, The Scream’s roadie, was chalking up massive lines of speed in the studio for these lads…. NO, I ain’t buying the “we’re sober” business The Scream is putting out there. Not only am I not buying it, but I don’t wanna believe it. Mainly cuz I toured with Primal Scream for three weeks on the “Dirty Hits” tour and it took me three years to come down from that joyride of a rock n’ roll fantasy camp. I’ve never seen more drugs consumed and fun had by so many old men. Primal Scream GOES OFF WAY HARDER THAN YOUR FAVORITE BAND! I still wanna see the death match tour between Queens Of The Stoneage and Primal Scream… tour til someone dies! Who would win? I don’t know Jennifer from RTX too well and I heard she reads Buddyhead, so I won’t say if she goes off or not. There’s always the slight chance I might be wrong and she might read this, you know? Anyhow… back to the record these dudes have coming out….

For nine bucks (don’t count in pounds, limeys) you get Primal Scream covering The Troggs’ primordial “I Want You” (I stole the word ‘primordial’ from the press release. You’re gonna see that shit pop-up on The Head quite a bt from now on). RTX serve up Spirit’s “Nature’s Way”, which sounds like it could be killer! I like RTX (Royal Trux was the shit!) and I love me some Primal Scream, but the last two Scream records are total turds. Avoid the wackness. But then again what do I know? Cuz they scored their biggest hit with “Country Girl” off one of those boring records. I’m a huge fan of the Mani (Stone Roses) on bass era… everything from “Vanish Point” through “Evil Heat” is fuckin’ TITS! And the “Live In Japan” record with Kevin Shields (MBV) on guitar (and he mixed himself WAY up in the mix too) is probably my favorite Primal Scream release… except for maybe the live version of “Shoot Speed / Kill Light” the band gave me for “Buddyhead Presents: Gimme Skelter”. Then again, I’m biased. *Update stream both tracks from the 12 inch below!*
