So… before I give you my take on Magic Wands – I must first admit that I fucked up and was a total idiot the first time I saw these kids play… I was DJing The Kills/Horrors/Magic Wands show at The Fonda and was super sick and in a grumpy Travis mood when Magic Wands took the stage. I watched them for about 5 seconds and then Twittered that they blew. Well, I’d like to say sorry to the band and anyone that read that post cuz I WAS TOTALLY FUCKING WRONG! I am now a huge fan of The Magic Wands as I said HERE and I think they’re one of the best new bands to come out in the last couple years! I can not wait for their full length, which they are about to start recording very soon! Anyways, now that I’ve admitted that I was wrong… let’s move on, shall we?

Dexy & Chris (the two lovebirds that make us The Magic Wands) have written some of the catchiest songs I’ve heard in a long time. I DJ out at bars, clubs and shows in LA a lot (and I’m not even a real DJ – but hey it pays the rent and I love doing it so I cant complain) and whenever I put on one of their songs, people start dancing! And if you’ve ever heard me DJ, you know that people shaking their money makers to what I play is a very rare thing! A feat unto itself… so good work Magic Wands!

But what do they sound like? I know this is cliche but they’ve got their own sound… and if you’re really that curious, listen to them. But in my mind their songs lie somewhere between Love & Rockets, the first Madonna record, “Abracadabra” by Steve Miller Band and The Jesus & Mary Chain (any of their songs will do cuz we all know everyone of their songs is the same). Dancey pop music with dirty hooky guitars and lush vocals about love, kisses, magic spells and other occult/spiritual things. Hopefully the band isn’t too bummed on that description… all I know is everyone I’ve ever played this band for ends of loving them and I’m gonna bet money on it, unless you’re only into girl repellent music, you are gonna be a fan as well!
