New Ol’ Dirty Bastard Single “Say NO” (Free mp3!)

“KIDS, DON’T GET HIGH.”
Hmm. That’s not the sort of introduction you’d expect from ODB–dead or alive. Then again, if your parents ever told you, “Do as I say, not as I do,” it makes a little more sense. Then again, when your parents ever said that, didn’t that just make you want to disobey them even more? That’s the feeling I get after hearing “Say NO,” the first single from Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s new album, Message From The Other Side: Osiris Pt 1. Especially when the late Russell Jones follows that sage advice with a personal observation:
“I’M COCAINED THE FUCK UP.”
So ODB continues to make release music. But this new album, which gets released November 17, is being hyped as a “proper ODB album,” not a tribute:
“Message to the Other Side – Osiris Part 1” has 21 tracks. Executive produced by Allah and featuring Wu Tang Clan’s ODB, The RZA and affiliates 4th Disciple, Brooklyn Zu, Allah, Masta Killah, Free Murder and others. This record has Dirty’s family and the entire Wu-Tang Clan behind him. A bonus to this package is a DVD a 20 minute excerpt of the soon to be released film ‘Dirty,’ a Rapumentary about ODB.”
I’m listening to the song a third time, and I’m feeling itchy.
ODB, in song and in life, married the absurd and the sublime with unprecedented style and charisma. “Say NO” isn’t going to win any Grammy’s–we hope–but it’s entertaining, a little out of control, and funny as hell; in short, Ol’ Dirty being his best and worst self. We’d like D.A.R.E. to use “Say NO” as its new theme song, but only because they probably failed to license Willie’s “Reasons to Quit.”
A few highlights from “Say NO”:
1:15 – ATLiens?
2:22 - ”DRUG FREE! DRUG FREE! DRUG FREE! DRUG FREE! DRUG FREE! DRUG FREE! DRUG FREE! DRUG FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!”
2:32 – My favorite part. ODB getting weird as fuck, rap-singing a cappella and adding his own “du-nuh-nuhnuhnuhhh” riffs before a bunch of coke-snorts take the song back to the beat.
Anyway, remember what ODB told us? WU-TANG IS FOR THE CHILDREN:
So is Buddyhead!

I think ATLiens is the title of an old record by Outkast but I’m too tired to check.
