Meercaz – “ST”
Meercaz
“ST”
LP (Tic Tac Totally)/CD (Gulcher Records)
This is it! Psychedelic space rock that twists, turns, squirms, and shuffles its way into your brain like some kind of parasite. Meercaz is the brain child of Muslim Delgado out of Portland Oregon and it’s some pretty cool shit for sure! You have here 10 tracks of primitive sounding sludge that has traces of glam, metal, proto punk and even a few hints of pop that are overshadowed only by the ridiculous monotone vocals and fuzzed out guitar. You can hear all the influences from the Australian rock scene such as AC/DC and Colored Balls to Bubble Gum Glam like Slade all the way to lesser known legends like Debris or Sacramento’s Twinkeys. You can tell Muzz has grown up on a steady diet of Stooges! This lp is kind of a collected works of sort. You get the original single that was self released on Muslims Point Wrex label containing the brilliant tracks “Legend” and “Unlust”. You get another 8 tracks that include barn burners such as “Manic Mirror”, “Nothing”, and “Troubled Hand” too spaced out instros like “Future News” and “Fan of Days”. The whole thing gets topped off with the dreary psych pop ballad “Defeated At Home” just in time to sooth the savage beast that he builds up and creates with the rest of the album. Muzz knows how to make an album that contains variety and doesn’t fall into the trap of sticking to a formula. He also enlists the help of competent musicians to help him with this project. Some of the recruits on these recordings include Clay Silvia (ex Clorox Girls) Sarah Epstein (Hunches) Jesse Elizondo (The Minds). Meercaz is now a full band and is playing live around town although for some reason I haven’t been able to catch them yet. I plan on making the next one! Stay tuned for an upcoming interview with Meercaz right here on buddy head. Now do yourself a favor and go pick this record up chump!
