Sure, this is a poorly written piece and the aim of it is very vague (or perhaps just highly passive aggressive). I can sense a lot of inarticulate rage as well. That being said, the issue it brings up is an interesting one.

In my opinion its no one's business how much money a person has, weather they are an artist or not. What really matters is the content of their work. We all know there are bands/artists out there who have come from really low income circumstances to create brilliant stuff. Then again, there are plenty from the same background whose output is pure crap. The same logic is true when applied to financially well off artists.

This brings to mind the incident or beef involving Blag Dahlia and Josh Homme from a few years back. After Nick Oliveri was fired from QOTSA, Dahlia's band Dwarves released a song wherein Dahlia called QOTSA "Queens of the Trustfund".

I don't know who has how much money between these two bands/artists, or whose parents set up bank rolls for whom, but I do know which I like better. Take a guess.

Dissing someone for being the recipient of a trustfund is like dissing someone for have blue eyes or being short. Its not their fault. And only a fool would fail to use such a gift, or to cast it away because of some (whack) moral principle that says good art can only come through suffering.

I, like the author, work a regular job and also am in a band. As the principle songwriter, I have to find time (usually very late at night) to be creative. I have no problem with this, as I love the process and I have no shortage of cool ideas. If I had a ton of cash, I would almost certainly do music full time. I don't, but I do what I have to do to scratch my itch.

I'm glad whenever I know someone is doing what they really love, in whatever context and on whatever schedule or whoever's dime. Envy is just a form of laziness in my opinion.

Let's also remember that record contracts are a form of patronage that no one has mentioned, or that (at least in the old days) record companies endowed bands with lavish expense funds.

Anyway that's my two cents.

the worst thing is these trust fund kids never seem to acknowledge their priveledge. when you start to dig at them they sometimes spill the beans about chalets or how their house is actually paid for by their dads and not infact paid for by their gruelling event promotion/blog writer/once a week shift at american apparal. to make shit a bit more ridiculous these same people are posting tweets about how there was too much froth in their latte or how much of a pain in the ass it is to move all their stuff into the 3 story apartment daddy got them. it is hard not to get pissed off when you are in a position where yr last pair of pants are torn to in the crotch so prospective employers can see yr junk, you are squatting in a warehouse with the authorities doing their best to make you homeless, most of your equipment is broke and you are stealing food to survive (for example). every chance these priveledged folk get they take for granted but it aint it is a huge priveledge to never have to worry about food or accomadation.

At the end of the day, what use is any of this to JP or anyone reading it, poorly written or otherwise? Join the Peace Corps. Go volunteer at a shelter. Get over yourself/selves and quit wasting your lives writing nonsense and debating it.

nothing means anything anymore. i know. what is punk? whatever... i wonder if i´m a fucking grump at the age of 24 because if you see all that shit going down, how everyones shopping for realness nowadays, there´s nothing but bitterness in the end. i hate a lot about the kids although i´m a kid myself, or i should be. maybe it´s because it´s all too easy now. underground is no underground anymore because people are looking for scene points, not only in punk, everywhere, everybody wants to be part of their peer group and all you gotta do is to buy the right gear. know the right bands. watch the films. fuck that. you shouldn´t care about that shit as well as i shoudn´t be caring about this stuff. originality and creativity will outlast uniformity and consumerism. if 90% percent of the people will still lie to themselves that their meaningless opinions on what is the new hot shit really matter then so be it, bad for them. they are lost anyway. does this affect you or me? people who consume a lot don´t do cool shit all the time. people that don´t struggle have nothing to say most of the time. i´m not saying wealthiness has a stand against creativity. i´m sure a lot of wealthy people are creative. but in the end it´s the struggle, albeit a personal one, that creates beauty, art and truth. not necessarily the economic struggle. the struggle to live in a world coated in meaningless bullshit where everything you love gets sold out immediately. i try to disconnect myself from these schemes. do cool shit man. that´s all that matters. i know the sourness, but it´s gotta stop, you get cancer from that.

I think I get the main point: It's about class differences between wealthy artists and those who are not wealthy.

Then there's this:

"Don’t get me wrong; this is not a class issue here."

I'm confused.
