Win tickets to The Hold Steady / Art Brut tonight in LA

November 7th, 2007 by Travis Keller

So Goldenvoice told me that since we’ve somewhat got this time machine working and it kinda looks like the year 2000 again on this website, we can give tickets away to any Goldenvoice show that we want! You’re stoked! Not only is it a free show but usually I DJ before and in-between the bands! So anyways, back to me cuz I’m totally into myself… Ok, here’s the deal… if I get you in, you gotta do me a solid and buy me a beer. I’m not hard to find… I’m the shaggy hair guy DJing CDs. You can’t miss how dumb I look.

This contest is for tickets to see The Hold Steady, Art Brut and LA’s The Blood Arm @ The Henry Fonda Theatre. And that’s tonight, Wednesday, November 7th, 2007.

Anyways, here’s how it’s done. First you email me traviskeller@gmail.com and put HOLD STEADY TICKETS in the subject. In the body of the email include your full name (otherwise I can’t put you in the list jackass), age, sex, location (you gotta live in LA or the surrounding areas) and most importantly… The reason why I should let you win. The answers will all be posted here, so make sure it’s worth a bunch of people reading before you email it. Oh, and naked photographs are totally welcome. Game on.

Another thing I wanna do here with these contests is take requests. If you are going to the show and wanna hear me play something, post it here. I may or may not play it, don’t get your feelings hurt. Some of you know this already but for those of you who don’t, here’s what I’m talking about… I am for lack of better words “The House DJ” at the Henry Fonda Theatre and The El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. Basically I just play rock n’ roll songs before the show and in between the bands at all the shows. Sometimes my good friend Troy Boy comes along and does it with me. He’s usually the dude air-drumming.

Update: The winner for tonight is  Paul Michael White! YEAH PAUL! WOO!

Roky Erickson @ The El Rey Tonight!

October 28th, 2007 by Travis Keller

Hey Kids, this is borderline short-notice, if you happen to find yourself in Los Angeles tonight (Sunday October, 28th 2007) get it together champ and come on down to The El Rey Theatre and see Roky Erickson! And if you wanna kill two birds with one stone by buying me a beer at the same time, tonight is your night cuz I’ll be DJing some sweet rock n’ roll tunes before as well as between the bands (1990’s are also playing). I’ve been a pretty immersed fan of Mr. Erickson for a while now, so I’m really fuckin’ excited to see homeboy play to say the least. And my fingers are crossed that “Night Of The Vampire” is part of tonight’s set. Don’t fuck me on that dude… play it!

For those of you who haven’t already seen the rockumentary titled “You’re Gonna Miss Me”, I highly recommend doing so cuz I think it’s one of the best films ever made about rock n’ roll (aside from that sweet movie Marky Mark made called Rockstar). The film covers everything in Roky’s bizarre life including his personal battles with drug addiction (heroin and LSD binges), mental illness (struggles with schizophrenia), music “career” (including the 13th Floor Elevators), stays at Austin State Hospital and Rusk State Hospital for the Criminally Insane and his eventual recovery and return to performing music. It’s a good one dudes, trust me. Buy or borrow or rent or netflix or steal or whatever that DVD.
