U2 - Outside Broadcast bootleg

October 16th, 2007 by Aaron North

R2This U2 bootleg has not left my stereo for the past few weeks. And that’s because theis thing fuckin’ slays! It’s from the Zoo TV tour (I think) but 90% of the songs they play are from their “Achtung Baby” record (which just so happens to be my favorite U2 record cuz it’s the darkest and the most fucked up). I don’t know much about this bootleg, but I’m gonna guess the band made it cuz of the interludes and interviews included with it. Anyone know the skinny on this bad boy? Download a few songs or the whole thing as a zip file… It’s all about choices dude. Have it your way, like Burger King.

(Download the entire “Outside Broadcast” as a ZIP file)

The Jesus & Mary Chain - Sub Pop Single

October 9th, 2007 by Travis Keller

Jamc

This came out back in May of 1998 and features “Birthday” off the “Munki” record as well as the b-side “Hide Myself” which is only on this slab of vinyl. It’ll prolly be on the 4xCD boxset these grumpy old men are putting out in February next year on Rhino called “The Power Of Negative Thinking: B-Sides and Rarities”. Can’t wait for that little fucker. JAMC are playing the Wiltern on October 23rd with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, should be killer. You can buy tickets HERE.

A Place to Bury Strangers - S/T

October 5th, 2007 by Travis Keller

L_513f3c2b965b15a156e6d396b1bd4b9fA Place to Bury Strangers are the self proclaimed “Loudest band in New York”. For the record, I’m backing any band that wants to be the loudest band anywhere. Being loud is cool. I kept reading that these dudes sounded like The Jesus and Mary Chain so I finally got around to listening to them. And well, they kinda sound like that… Maybe they’d sound more like the JAMC if they didn’t write such catchy songs. APTBS have quite aways to go in the songwriting department, they pass in the feedback and cool sounds department though. Either way this record is pretty good, better than most new things I’ve heard lately… even if their band name sounds like something I read in Alternative Press.

Graveyard

October 3rd, 2007 by Travis Keller

L_d7b24bb0e09354dd8c80e9f922a29f5aGraveyard reminds me of Soundgarden, Black Sabbath & and dudes with long hair who always wear jean jackets. You might wanna get into the Angry Jesus style. Check out their song "Thin Line" from their record that’s coming out Febuary 8th on Tee Pee Records and then hit their myspace page for more songs @ http://www.myspace.com/graveyardsongs.

The Church - “Uninvited, Like The Clouds” / The Nova Saints - “The Draft”

October 3rd, 2007 by Travis Keller

H34572e1tkgI’ve been listening to a lot of these later era records from The Church for some reason. They’re pretty cool for the most part. So far, this one from 2006 is my favorite. Check these couple of songs out and post what do you guys think… Are you backing this?

(Download - The Church - "Block")

(Download - The Church - "Easy")

And what do you guys think of this song called "The Draft"? It’s by The Nova Saints, from their "The Draft EP"  (as is another song called "Far Out" which Nick McCabe from The Verve remixed), which you can buy directly from the band themselves at their website (http://www.myspace.com/novasaints). Yes, that means they’re unsigned. Someone with a label sign these dudes or something. Make a move.

Oasis - “Lord Don’t Slow Me Down”

October 2nd, 2007 by Travis Keller

140064_350Oasis is the best rock n’ roll band we currently have on planet earth and "Lord Don’t Slow Me Down" is their new single that comes out digitally on October 21st. If you’re good at math, that plus that means it’s the best new rock single. You might remember it as the theme song from their movie of the same title, that is if you saw it when they screened it at Noel’s solo shows last year. If you didn’t it’s coming out on DVD sometime really soon too.   Either way, it’s the  "Lord Don’t Slow Me Down" is the first new material Oasis has put out in three years and I can’t wait to have the bloody thing. Check out the video below and click here if you wanna pre-order it.

New songs from The Duke Spirit

September 10th, 2007 by Travis Keller

ExvotoepoutlinesmallformyspaceThe Duke Spirit have posted 4 new songs on their myspace page that you’ll be able to buy as an EP on October 22nd. Three of the songs (Lassoo, Dog Roses, & MASCA) were recorded earlier this year at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, California
with desert Czar Chris Goss. The other, ‘A Wild Hope’, produced by the band themselves, is the result of a frenzied 2 days in Flood’s bedroom studio. Sounds tits.

Speaking of, I uploaded some more photos to my Flickr account… some of which include The Duke Spirit… click here. More on the way too… just gotta get over my jet-lag.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Is Is EP

August 30th, 2007 by Travis Keller

300pxis_isSo, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs recently put out a new EP (of older songs that for some reason or another they didn’t put on that last album), that’s pretty good. They kinda lost me on their sophomore record but this little five song EP sounds more like their first EP on Touch & Go and "Fever To Tell", than their last offering. We even played the demo of "Down Boy" on the first (and only at this point) Buddyhead Radio Show, which I think you can still download by clicking here. Check out the new version of "Down Boy"… DO IT!

David Vandervelde

August 1st, 2007 by Travis Keller

Sc156I don’t know much about this dude aside from that he sounds a lot like a cross between Marc Bolan and David Bowie, he recorded this record over a two year period at Jay Bennett’s (Wilco) Clubhouse and he writes pretty good songs. I’m not even a big fan of Bowie (I like it when he covered The Velvet Underground), but I’ll pretend I am if it means I’m going to get laid because of it. I haven’t tested my theory out yet but I’d be willing to lay down whatever money I do have on that chicks will dig this David Vandervelde record if you put it on when you’re trying to get down. Lemme know if it works kids. Anyone seen this cat live?

THE VERVE ARE BACK BITCH!

June 26th, 2007 by Travis Keller

Verve_2 According to his website, it looks like Dicky Ashcoft finally stopped listening to his massive ego, pulled his weird looking head out of his ass and dialed up Nick McCabe and said "let’s get the band back together mate!" Fucking finally dude… music is power Dicky and the best music you made is BY FAR with The Verve! This means two things that are both music to my ears. First… NO MORE ADULT CONTEMPORARY SOLO ASHCROFT RECORDS! WOO! Secondly… THE VERVE ARE MAKING A NEW RECORD AND ARE GONNA PLAY SHOWS! SHIT YEAH! Yep, the original line-up (Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe, Simon Jones and Pete Sailsbury) were back together (first time since they broke up in 1999) recording in a London studio last week. After a summer break, they will return to the studio to complete their next album and then in November they’ll be playing some live shows in the UK. Who’s flying me over for that? Any takers? Anyone? Here’s the deal… you fly me over for the shows and I’ll buy beers for us at the shows as well as the tickets to the shows which go on sale on my big 3 0 birthday July 6th. See, it’s fuckin’ meant to be.

Pleasure Forever - Bodies Need Rest

June 13th, 2007 by Travis Keller

Front
Pleasure Forever are back… kinda. They’ve released a posthumous collection of unreleased and rare songs called "Bodies Need Rest" on Conspiracy Records. This album consists of four cover songs from some unfinished EP, plus four rare tracks forming a comprehensive timeline from the band’s beginning. This album includes 5 previously unreleased Pleasure Forever tracks as well as two B-sides previously released on Sub Pop and one track from the out-of-print Buddyhead Presents: Gimme Skelter compilation I put together back in 2003. Pleasure Forever is not currently active, but this long-awaited release is set for official release worldwide on May 22, 2007. Each band member lives in a different city on the west coast and is involved in other musical projects at this time. Andrew Rothbard released his first solo album Abandoned Meander in late 2006 on Smooch Records. David Clifford currently plays drums in Red Sparowes and bass guitar in The Sagittarians. Josh Hughes has a new band called Rabbits featuring ex-Lion Fever drummer Kevin Garrison. Pleasure Forever was once known as SLAVES and all thee members played previously in The VSS.

Tracklisting:
1. King Cobra in the Guts of Valhalla
2. Miles Underneath
3. Capricorn Blue
4. Right Back Down in the Middle
5. Black Juju
6. The Bars
7. Our Way
8. Honey Honey

(Download - "The Bars" Black Flag cover)

Young Pete Doherty in line for Oasis

June 11th, 2007 by Travis Keller

I don’t know anything about Pete Doherty or his music, what I’ve heard isn’t very impressive but he is buries the rocket in Kate Moss so he must be doing something right. Here’s a clip of him pre-drugs&fame standing in line for Oasis. Fuck, if he likes Oasis he’s ok in my book.

While I’m posting shit no one cares about in America here’s a clip of the bear from the Bo Selecta show… I posted a clip of the bear with Jenny McCarthy a while ago.

Unkle featuring The Duke Spirit

June 5th, 2007 by Travis Keller

Picture2
I don’t know much about Unkle, aside from that song they did with Thom Yorke a few years back with the crazy bum video, but their new record sounds like it might be worth checking out. According to Wikipedia their new record is due out July 24th in North America, will be called "War Stories" and feature the likes of Josh Homme, Chris Goss, Ian Astbury, some dude from Massive Attack, Autolux and The Duke Spirit. Sounds alright, right? I think so. If this track called "May Day" featuring The Duke Spirit  that someone emailed me  sounds anything like the rest of the record, I’m right again! Woo! Check it out.

(Download - "May Day" featuring The Duke Spirit)

Speaking of The Duke Spirit… they are on this side of the ocean (they hail from that little island with the shitty food called United Kingdom) recording their new full length with Chris Goss out in the desert. The band recently just played an amazing show at Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace that blew minds and have now decided to bring their rock back to the city of LA on June 12th @ Spaceland (yeah, I know… the only bummer is you gotta go to Silverlake). Oh, and the Duke Spirit have the coolest website of any band out there as far as I’m concerned. Might as well hit their myspace for some tunes and videos… they’ve got plenty of em!

Also, seeing as how I’ve been on a movie kick lately… what do you cats think this new Transformers movie is gonna be like? Is it gonna blow? Or is it gonna be a good big dumb action movie like I hope it is? I mean at least this chick is in it. Let’s hear some predictions… Also, anyone seen any good flicks lately?

Oh… and if anyone has the soundtrack to American Psychoemail me.
