Hi, I’m Meathead. Are you all excited for the Holidays? Boy, I sure am! I got a ham and everything. But I guess that isn’t really any of your business. Anyway, in the interest of maintaining my sparkling track record of never posting anything that makes even the tiniest modicum of sense being on Buddyhead, and because I probably drink too much, here’s the brand new Dave & Ug Christmas Special that nobody has been waiting for!

Cold Cave Ticket Giveaway

We’re giving away 5 pairs of tickets to the Cold Cave, Smith Westerns, Best Coast & Avi Buffalo show at the Glasshouse February 17th. It’s an all ages show that starts at 7:30 PM.

Don’t fret if you don’t win that one, because we ALSO have TWO tickets to give away to the February 18th Cold Cave, Best Coast & Smith Westerns show at The Echoplex. This is another all ages show that starts at 8:00 PM.

Hi, I’m Meathead. Sorry it’s been a little while since I’ve posted something here, but I’ve been pretty busy lately. You know how it seems like lately everyone in L.A. has a rooster in their backyard? Well, I was out delivering magazines a couple weeks ago (no, I don’t get paid for it; I just strongly believe all Americans have the right to have vomit-stained copies of US Weekly hurled through their windows via brick at 2:30 A.M.) when I encountered a strange little man with a coffee colored suit, a raging case of pink eye and the personality of rancid goat’s milk. I wouldn’t have crossed the street to talk to him had it not been for his incredibly vague resemblance to an Armenian Robert Redford. Well, a really short, Armenian Robert Redford. I figured I could get a picture with him, and, through the magic of my pirated copy of Adobe Photoshop CS4, I could convince all my friends on Facebook that I know famous people. Then again, I don’t technically have a Facebook page, or friends for that matter, but both are on my checklist of things to do this weekend, which I’ve titled “Things I Was Going To Do This Weekend, But It’s Raining, So Fuck It, I’m Just Going To Play Rainbow Six on my Xbox 360 Instead.” Not to brag, but I’ve actually beaten Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 on the “Realistic” level. I’d probably be pretty good at that black ops stuff in real life, and I’d be all over it if it weren’t for the shitty hours. You know what I mean? I like knowing when I’ll have to go to work every week, instead of getting a call at 6 in the damn morning on a Sunday telling me I have to get up and go infiltrate some terrorist organization over in Palmdale, like it really can’t wait until Monday. That’s the tradeoff for getting to wear those cool heat-vision goggles, I suppose. I wonder what would happen if I wore those to work one day. I’d have to take them off while I’m at my desk, because it would be hard to read my computer screen. That’s probably a stupid idea. Forget I said anything about that. The point is, don’t approach weird people at weird times just because they look like overrated actors, unless your pancreas likes getting perforated courtesy of a rusty X-Acto knife (take my pancreas’ word for it- it doesn’t).

Anyway, as I was saying, I’ve been kinda busy, but here’s a new Dave & Ug cartoon. Hopefully it’ll be ROCK AND ROLL enough for you, gentle Buddyhead reader, but if it’s not, at least it’s free. Isn’t that what’s really important?

Grunge Giveaway

I know a ton of you kids out there dig Nirvana, so we’re bringing you this book that Thurston Moore (of Sonic Youth)—who introduced Kurt Cobain to David Geffen (Geffen Records), a meeting that resulted in Nirvana’s first major debut, Nevermind, in September 1991, which by December was selling 400,000 copies a week—writes about the discovery of Seattle punk youth, the seminal bands that defined the movement, the exploitation of the subculture, and the backlash of grunge, as well as the death of his longtime collaborator and intimate Cobain.

We can have two winners. So here’s what you gotta do for me.

The Book Of Eli Giveaway

So there’s this movie coming out called The Book Of Eli, and it looks ridiculously good, right?

Well, we here at Buddyhead are giving one U.S. citizen the chance to win a rad contest containing 1 movie poster autographed by Atticus Ross (the soundtrack’s composer) and film’s directors, The Hughes Brothers.

Now all you Ninnies out there (I’m sure there are a few of you, at least, reading this right now), you all know that Atticus Ross worked closely with Trent Reznor on a lot of his albums. He’s also worked as a part of 12 Rounds to put out some amazing work, so you know that his work on this album is fantastic.

The Drifter Giveaway!

I don’t know if you guys have heard about this DVD, but it’s amazing. In the summer of 2008, iconic surfer and former Pipe Master, Rob Machado, flew to Indonesia to experience a different kind of surf trip. The journey took him way beyond his comfort zone, where he was alone with his thoughts, desires and the empty perfection of an unnamed Indian Ocean reef. What he discovered was beautifully captured in this autobiographical film.
