The Cassettes just finished an animated music video for their song Rogue Gnome, which you can find on their critically acclaimed album ‘Neath The Pale Moon! If you haven’t checked out that bad boy yet, we highly recommend you do so now by clicking HERE. Either way, check out this video… it was brought to life by Stephen Guidry and illustrated by Shelby Cinca, both dudes are in The Cassettes.

No I haven’t left this place completely yet… it’s just summer and I’ve been doing a while lot of nothing. Doing nothing takes up a lot of time man. And I can’t get a job in LA so I figured I’d just throw the towel in on the whole "I’m trying to get my shit together thing". Instead, I’m headed for Europe to freeload on the Nine Inch Nails tour starting this coming Saturday, click here for the dates. I can’t wait for all the festivals like Reading and Leeds, should be tits. If you’re gonna be out there, send me an email and if you’re not a weirdo and/or you wanna buy me drinks maybe we’ll meet up.
Anyways, enough about me, this new AA Bondy record is seriously one of the best things I’ve heard all year. It’s near perfect. My friend Sam Velde hipped me to this bad boy a few months ago and I haven’t stopped listening to it since. It’s actually the singer of that band crappy band, Verbena, but from the sound of things homeboy has turned the suck WAY down. Check out AA Bondy’s Myspace page as well as Superphonic Records Myspace page. "American Heart" doesn’t come out until September 4th, but you can order it now from the Superphonic Records website for a mere $13. Do it. From what I heard this dude turned in like three full records so we should see a lot more tunes from this talented young gentleman really soon. Either way, we win.

Start the countdown cuz the Cassettes are heading out on a good old fashion American tour in two days! They’ll even be busking on the street in some cities and selling Cassettes tea at their merch booth! When was the last time you heard of a band doing that? I can’t wait til they hit LA… If you haven’t checked them out yet, download the two tracks below. You can get their new cd ‘Neath The Pale Moon from your local record store or from one of the online services below. You might wanna also pick up the reissue (with bonus tracks) of their second record O’er The Mountain which features members of Dead Meadow as the backing band. The singer of The Cassettes, Shelby, produced their first two records. But the DM dudes aren’t in the band anymore, it’s a full new and improved lineup now… for more on The Cassettes visit their myspace page @ http://myspace.com/thecassettes, their website @ http://www.thecassettes.com/ and Wikipedia page @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cassettes.

Ramblin’ Jack Elliott has put out a shit load of records (most of which I haven’t heard), was friends with Woody Guthrie, inspired Bob Dylan’s playing style, appeared on Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue in 1976 and now at the age 75 has signed to the same label as Nick Cave (and his new killer band Grinderman), Tom Waits, Neko Case, Merle Haggard and Elliott Smith. Yup, he’s cooler than you’ll ever be and that photo up top is kinda old. Jack signing to Anti means… now I get his records for free in the mail so I can write about em. On homeboy’s new record, "I Stand Alone", he’s got some "youngsters" helping him out… DJ Bonebrake (the drummer of X), Sleater-Kinney’s Corin Tucker and jive turkey Flea. I’m really digging the song,"Driving Nails in My Coffin" and his spoken word piece "Woody’s Last Ride" is pretty cool. Anyone know what old Ramblin’ Jack records are the ones you wanna hear? Fill me in… more downloads here.

If you aren’t feelin’ the country/folk vibe today because you’re already a little down… pound some coffee and download these two Oasis demos. That always works for me.

(Download - "Lyla" both singing)

This is sort of a random post because this isn’t even close to being one of my favorite Dylan records. Too bad Aaron’s too lazy to post on here, cuz that dude knows way more about Dylan than I do. He almost knows too much about Dylan. But I’ve been rocking this album lately so I’m sharing it with you guys now. "In My Time Of Dyin" is my favorite song on this record cuz it’s got fucking cool attitude! All he wants you to do is "take his body home" man! Plus you might notice that Spacemen 3 borrowed some lyrics from this jam for their song "Come Down Easy" which I posted a while ago. That band was so good at stealing shit and making it their own. I love that. Here’s "Fixin’ To Die" as well cuz this one is bad ass too. Dyan didn’t write either one of these, they’re traditional songs. In fact most of this record is, I think it boasts only two originals. On a side and somewhat related note, the skatepark in Glendale is fucking awesome! I’ve been skating there the last few days with Sam Velde. My body is freaking out cuz I haven’t exercised in years, I’m a total fat ass old man, it sucks. Yeeeeeeeebrah!
