“Into The Future”
Going on 30 plus years, Bad Brains are still putting the PMA in full effect. This isn’t one of those ‘return to form’ records; it’s simply their next step in their ongoing progression. Picking up where “Build A Nation” left off and making it clear that they still have a healthy amount of fuel in their creative tank. The first thing that hit me was the punch of Dr. Know’s and Darryl Jennifer’s guitars (courtesy of Dr. Know’s production skills) locked tight with each other and Earl Hudson’s drums. Songs like Popcorn and Youth Of Today have been stuck in my ears since first spin. Which brings us to H.R. As many have attested, he does not scream anymore and hasn’t done so for quite some time. As many have attested, seeing Bad Brains in concert is a roll of the dice wholly dependent on which H.R. shows up, if he shows up at all (kinda like Axl). So let this record be of some comfort to your ears. H.R. is safely behind a vocal booth with his soulfreak delivery in strong form. When these four men are in a room, that electricity is hard to deny. No, this isn’t their first record or “I Against I” re-written, this “Into The Future”, so get with the present ya dig?
