I don’t remember who, but some dude once said: “You gotta use this head (pointing to his crotch), not this head (pointing to his head of hair), when you make rock n’ roll!” I obviously agree with said dude and I’m pretty sure White Manna know what I’m talking about, cuz their debut self titled album out on Holy Mountain doesn’t contain anything that could be considered rocket-science. Not a lot of original ideas going on here, but that does NOT mean I’m not down with this!
You’ve for sure heard this brand of psychedelic rock before, think The Black Angels or Dead Meadow if they’re were into The Stooges “Funhouse” a bit more (or played like they were more excited?). White Manna invoke inspirations from old favorites like Hawkwind, The Stooges (yeah, I already mentioned em – so what?) and Spacemen 3 with these five songs of heavy-space jamming which clock in at just 39 minutes.
These hippies aren’t reinventing the wheel at all but I can’t say I’ll ever tire of this sound. Axl agrees with a “good” rating.
