Diva Dompe – “MOON MOODS”
Hey there Buddyhead reading weirdos, I’m called Joshua. This is my first attempt at posting anything anywhere other than the F-to-the-B or the Twit Twit, so go easy on me. I live in Philadelphia, where I play my bass, wait tables at a shitty diner, stare at clouds and generally spend way too much time waiting. Waiting for what you ask? Good question, I’ll think about that and get back to you never. When Travis first asked me to start writing for his pride and joyful website my first thought was, “Oh cool, at least one person is digging the countless random pieces of found musica that i am forever twittering and facebooking away about as i sit in my little corner of the world, on my couch, on the world wide WHAT THE FUCK AM I GETTING AT? So yeah, I’ll do this man. At least once. I mean, I spend way too much time discovering and listening to music when i should be out there making more of my own sounds. But all in good time, right? In the meantime, I will attempt to provide you all with some mind expanding audio/visual.
You should be warned that depending on where my head is at at any given moment I really could be listening to just about anything and I am a lost dreamer just trying to press on to the next something or other. And I am by no means any kind of writer, or blogger. Until now, I guess?
If you haven’t had the pleasure of knowing who Diva Dompé is, let me indulge you. Diva has been a fixture among the LA freak music scene for many years (and also a long time crush of mine ever since seeing her star in an old M83 video about 10 years ago). Diva used to play in Pocahanuted with Amanda Brown (aka LA Vampires… more on her later). Before that had a cute yet gloomy/doomy little band with her sis called BlackBlack, that released a couple records back in like 2005. Nowadays, she has gone solo under the moniker DIVA. Her newest offering Moon Moods makes me feel dark, weird and tingly in all the right places. Here are her first two videos from the new record. Don’t be afraid to fall in love, I have! Fun fact: Diva’s dad is none other than Bauhaus/Love & Rockets/Tones On Tail drummer Kevin Haskins, who also helped produce the new record as well as playing auto harp on one track!
