BRMC’s “Howl” Back On Vinyl

First off, I just gotta say that I can’t fucking believe it’s been almost ten years since “Howl” came out! The album still sounds like a relatively new record, I guess that’s partly due to it’s timelessness as well as my brain-damage. Wow, where is the time going? When did I get old?

I love this photo of BRMC cuz it’s got a Wu-Tang Clan vibe. Peter is lighting a cancer-stick and has a “I just might stab you for no reason other than I feel like it” vibe going on. While Rob’s rocking a black hoodie and is smirking like he thinks it’s funny that Peter is gonna knife you. And Leah is just cold as ice over there on the right looking like she’s ready to deck the shit out of the next person who brings up Nick Jago’s name. They just look like bad-asses! Now that I got that nonsense rant out of the way, I can launch into another one… In case you didn’t know, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is one of my favorite active rock n’ roll bands. They are great songwriters, they make awesome albums, their live shows are exciting and they can either be the loudest band you’ve ever heard or they can folk-it-out Americana style with acoustic guitars and harmonicas. Speaking of Americana, their foot-stompin’ album “Howl” is hands down my favorite collection of songs they’ve recorded to date. Even the out-takes (which they’re pressing on vinyl for the first time) are awesome, I love the song “Mercy”) are worth checking out!

On April 21st, 2012 AKA National Record Store Day, “Howl” will be available on vinyl again (I guess it’s been out of print for a long while) and you’ll also be able to purchase a copy of The Howl Sessions (b-sides) on vinyl for the first time ever. For the record, my birthday is July 6th and I don’t have either of these… hint-hint… Here are the details that I copied and pasted from their website… The re-release of HOWL will come on heavyweight recycled color vinyl in a double gatefold that features all the artwork from the original UK Only limited edition pressing (2005) including new artwork in the gatefold. The Howl Sessions comes on a special limited edition Picture Disc and features an extended version of “Mercy,” an alternate version of “Sympathetic Noose,” and the never before heard song “Heaven” which was recorded during the Howl Sessions. Both the HOWL limited edition color vinyl and The Howl Sessions picture disc are exclusive to the Official BRMC Site.

Ok, now here’s where shit gets nuts (and this is actually what you should get me for my birthday)… they’ve also got a “HOLY SHIT I AM SUCH A HUGE BRMC FAN THAT I WANNA BLOW OVER $100 ON A RECORD I ALREADY OWN” package that sells for $129.00!!! Here’s what you get if you drop that kinda coin for Peter and Robert’s tunes…

• Limited Edition Reversible HOWL T-Shirt
• Howl Vinyl
Available for the first time ever on vinyl outside of the UK. This re-release of Howl is Double Gatefold Heavyweight Vinyl printed on limited edition brown/yellow recycled vinyl exclusive to the website.
•Howl Sessions Vinyl
This is the first ever vinyl release of the Howl Sessions. Printed on heavyweight vinyl, this features a limited edition picture disc exclusive to the site.
The Howl Sessions features the previously unreleased extended version of Mercy and the alternate version of Sympathetic Noose as well as the never before heard track Heaven.
• Leather Journal and with BRMC logo embossing and Black Pencil
• Digital Vinyl Rip of ORIGINAL HOWL UK VINYL (Instant Download)
Instant download is a special needle drop recording of the ORIGINAL HOWL UK VINYL done by one of the premier needle droppers active today, PBTHAL. He has extracted every bit of detail out of the record grooves and converted them into digital files. He does so using a handpicked stack of analog and digital gear matched an unerring sense of how to prep LPs for transfer and finish digital files with analog integrity preserved. Like mix tape producers before him, PBTHAL is crossing over from the gray and Howl marks his debut in such a public forum.

Looks pretty awesome to me man! If I had more money than I knew what to do with, I would buy two of em! The only constructive criticism I have is that it’s too bad it doesn’t include a motorcycle ride with the band member of your choice! Wouldn’t that be sweet? Hangin’ onto Robert’s leather jacket as he steers you up the PCH at 75 MPH… the wind in your hair… oops, sorry. I got carried away. Ok.. well, if your bank account looks anything like mine, follow my lead… sign up for their email list and call it a day. It’s free!

Is Peter Hook Being a (B)asshole?

That’s no typo! That’s my new word for a bitter bassist who’s being kind of a cock lately. Old Peter Hook is currently the grumpiest post-punk dude of 2013 (after Mark E. Smith and Morrissey, of course). Although he left … more >

Watch your back, Twitter: Apple Ping is in town!

Finally, I can tell a bunch of total strangers on the internet what songs I’m listening to! Well, I mean, in addition to doing exactly that on Last.fm and Blip.fm. But now I can do it three times! more >
