The Sister Ruby Band: My New Favorite LA Band

Think the cool swinger of the Velvets era Lou Reed with lyrical nods to Spiritualized with dreamy spaced out blissfully lush guitars that remind me of something that could have easily fit nicely on Love & Rockets Sweet F.A. I love discovering new band, the older I get the less it seems to happen. I can’t tell if less bands don’t suck these days, if Im just becoming more and more jaded or some combination of both of those is happening. Either way, I just found my new favorite Los Angeles band… meet The Sister Ruby Band.

The Sister Ruby Band is the well developed project of art-school student, Marlon Rabenreither, who literally plays everything on his In Cold Blood full length and his A Shot In The Dark EP (he even recorded it in his bedroom himself, the only thing he didn’t do is mix it). I discovered them when I borrowed a friend of a friends car and drove from Echo Park to Beverly Hills, the cd just happened to be on the passenger seat (and neither my friend nor her friend could figure out where it came from so I claimed the gem as mine) and seeing as how the band only pressed 100 copies thats pretty fuckin crazy. Either way, this band rips and you should buy their albums via some digital service like Amazon.

Have some free MP3s and watch their very tasteful videos… oh and make sure you catch em live. Show info on their website over at http://www.thesisterrubyband.com/.
