I had the pleasure of meeting (alright it went more like I harassed him but either way we spoke man) Jarvis Cocker at Coachella the year they Godlenvoice was dumb enough to ask me to DJ. Bagging/name dropping time: I got to DJ right before The Jesus & Mary Chain (which you’ll know that, if you’ve ever read this site, is one of my all time favorite bands) reunited and my trailer (yes, I said trailer… and it was full of beer and treats too!) was directly across from Jarvis Cocker’s trailer. After staring across at my trailer (which had somehow blossomed into a bit of a buzzing party, which around 30 people all crammed in, sucking down as much free beer as they could) all afternoon, finally Jarvis Cocker approached me and asked who the hell I was. And I’ve met a lot of rock stars, idols and musicians in general and most of them aren’t as cool as you’d imagine them to be. In fact, I’d say that 9 times outta 10 meeting someone you listen to, watch in films or whos books you read… it’s a bum out. They never are as cool as I wanted them to be. Well, not the case with Jarvis Cocker. Jarvis was way cooler, much more charming and even funnier than I imagined him to be. And anyone that’ll put up with me quizzing them on their favorite Suicide songs or asking them to sing me songs they wrote in 1998 (Help The Aged) on the spot, with no rehearsal and acapella…. well that person has to be really fucking cool. Or super stoned.

Anyways… that was when Jarvis was doing the solo thing, which was OK. I went and saw it live, I bought the two solo records. But the reason I bought those records and went to those shows was because I fell in love with records his first band made called “This Is Hardcore” and “Common People” (among others), so when I heard Pulp was finally burying the hatchet and reuniting all I could think was “FINALLY!” Back on May 25th they played their first show since 2002. It took place at some club named Le Bikini in Toulouse, France as a warm-up to the next weekend’s performance at Primavera Sound. Check out the professional video somebody shot of the show below… thanks to Ben Fields for emailing this to me, next time don’t send it six months late dude!
