EL CID RIPS OFF LOCAL BANDS FOR PROFIT! BOYCOTT THEM! SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC!

EXAMPLE: I promoted a show this past Saturday July 15th, 2011 with The Shining Twins, Stab City, The Icarus Line and myself DJing in between bands. The deal was that the bands and I would get 10% of the bar seeing as how it was a free show. Well when it came time to pay up at the end of the night (after we’d sold them thousands of dollars worth of alcohol) they said they couldn’t pay us because we didn’t have a contract. Which is a bullshit excuse cuz they’re paying us under the table in cash. WHOS STOPPING YOU FROM PAYING US? You crooks are. If I needed a contract to get paid because the show was FREE they shoulda spoke up when I sent them the flyer that said “FREE” on it a week before the show. If this club cared about bands and artists they’d find a way to make shit cool between us but instead they’re gonna burn a bridge over a few hundred dollars. So I’m gonna go out of my way to let every band in the LA Area know that this is how these jokers do business and suggest they never play a show at EL Cid. I’ve been putting on shows for over 12 years in LA and I’ve had never had a contract and this is prolly the second time I’ve been been stolen from by a crooked club.

Finally someone confirms my suspicion…the first time we played El Cid we were just starting out as a band so we were like "oh shit a show in silverlake, this is huuuuge!" so we were all amped for it…little gaylords that we were, we were blind to a series of fucked up events that nowadays would send us packing and cancelling the gig but that night it was just like "ok whatever we have to do". Here is the shit they pulled: 1. didnt let us start playing until 15 people who were there to see us specifically had paid to get in. This was kind of a drag because they were adamant that our set finish at a precise time which they would not change! So there we were, dicks in hand, every minute that went by another minute that we wouldnt be able to perform. Finally I got extremely pissed off and jumped off the stage and was literally about to kill the fucking promoter- I wont name names but I will definitely lump him in with the management and anyone who books bands at this actually really cool looking but horribly run venue- I ended up having to pay like 100 dollars to make up for the entrance fees that a total of 15 people would have paid…I had people texting me saying they were on the way and eventually far more than 15 people showed but they would not give me back my money…also they said that since we had booked a gig within 3 weeks of the one at el cid they were not going to honor the terms of their fucking contract which stipulated that we get a cut of the door and bar.

The second time we played here the booking person had us sharing a bill with bands that were nothing like us. The sound guy seemed wasted off his ass…again there was no pay and I dont even think they floated us any booze. I ended up manning the outside bar however and letting anyone who was game stick their heads under one of the beer taps…

This place was built by DW Griffith to screen his racist epic "Birth of a Nation" which was basically the first blockbuster, let alone the first narrative film to come out of hollywood…the existence of this place marks the beginning of a cultural revolution and the media empire that calls hollywood its epicenter…unfortunately it is run by grossly shrewd, culturally ignorant and severely insincere buttsuckers…boycott this mofo amen. New management,,, iM going to buy it and turn it into a meat and whiskey/ coors light only restaurant/ bar…fuck you el shid!
