And Now, A Positive Henry Rollins Story

There was some rustle bustle not too long ago about what a big meanie Henry Rollins was to some “hipsters” who were innocently hipstering at a record store and totally not bothering anybody despite the fact that they were hipsters and are therefore the very definition of the word annoying. Today, I am here to show you one (or two) positive stories about Henry Rollins being a pretty nice guy and only chasing one hipster type in fun (and for a good cause).

Unsurprisingly, Rollins is on another spoken word tour. This one is the small scale off year tour called “50″ to celebrate his fiftieth year of being Rollins, he will probably only do about a million shows rather than his traditional billion. Just as the tour was about to get underway, he started getting emails from fans in Toronto asking why the tickets for his show there seemed to be much more expensive than usual. Here’s what happened.

Here’s how the big guy fixed it.

He brought what can be described as “fat stacks of cash” or “mad lootcakes” and started refunding the 10 dollars to each and every (surprised) patron.

Also, for those of you who can’t wait for some Rollins intimidation, here’s a video he made for Drop In The Bucket (a really cool organization that drills wells in Africa to make sure people there have fresh drinking water, because while you can go for up to 8 weeks without food, you won’t survive more than 3-5 days without water, normally)

The video makes the point that we as Americans waste water on a massive and sickening scale, in ways that should fill us with shame daily, and that we never notice it and never think that others might not be so lucky. A sobering thought, cloaked in humor. I should also add that the idea using a fountain dedicated to William Mulholland as background amuses me as a history nerd.

So there you go. Henry Rollins doing considerate things for people and keeping his word. I know, I’ll get the smelling salts.

Edit: Here’s the Official Rollins Article on the subject from the LA Weekly.

Those girls on the receiving end of his anger at the Cake Shop deserved it.

They thought they were gonna get away with some bullshit and then have a cool story to tell their idiot Bushwick friends, but he called’em out.

    Good for him.

See how they tried to re-tool what they said once he confronted them? Funny how that works.

Haha. White hipster girls with no tits. Fuck them…

pretty much, although i must admit to not paying attention to their cup sizes. you can actually see the moment when the rollins fuse burns down. i guess that girl wanted some attention and i guess she got it. it was maybe more than what she bargained for. i will just quote the sage words of will smith “don’t start nothin’, won’t be nothin’.

Drop in the Bucket sounds like an incredible cause and I’m glad he’s leveraging his name to get the word out. However, I think a friend nailed it when he called him “a gasbag. He’s an irrelevant fossil who carries himself like someone’s belligerent uncle who is eternally pissed that “the plant closed”.”
