J. Marinelli “Pre-Emptive Skankery...”

Posted by Shelbot on November 8, 2010 at 7:16 pm

J. Marinelli, a W. Virginia → Kentucky transplant delivers a new album on LP and digital! J has been touring the United States and causing a raucous with his lo-fi high-octane garage rock n’ roll tunes for the better part of this decade. I’ve had a pleasure of seeing him a few times and he indeed delivered on all fronts including the energy. Hearts raced and his set careened at times to breaking points where you would have no idea if he’d just kick a hole in bass drum or what. All this by one guy sitting down behind a drumset with a guitar and going full on. This is what rock n’ roll is about! No holds barred gritty and real! Like a NWA match in the late 80s- bloody Ric Flair flopping around the ring and chest-chopping his opponent into submission! WOO!

The album goes from a Guitar Wolf-like scorcher to solemn tracks that sound like a lo-fi Twin Peaks 1950s surreal dream. Sometimes a bit Billy Braggish or one can even say Ted Leo through a distortion pedal! But hell, to me this is 100% J! What’s more to say, get the LP and the music for CHOOSE YOUR OWN PRICE (starting from Zero to ???). The whole party is streaming on his Bandcamp page as well.

Our fave tracks are embedded below for enjoyment:
