Ice Sea Dead People from London, England scronk and shout like it’s Washington, DC in 1999! Think Dischord bands such as Black Eyes, Q and Not U, and Rites of Spring with great british accents that remind me vaguely of The Adicts or any great brit-punk band that gladly lets their accents fly. On occasion oddly the vocals veer to sound like Guy from Fugazi, particularly on the track “Grean Tree”, but hell, someone has gotta do it cuz Guy ain’t at the moment! Some nice fuzz guitars give this genre of scronky math-core a nice twist and the mid-fi production fits it perfectly. A refreshing sonic brush-stroke for the Neve + ProTools + Drum Replacer + Distressor times of nearly all indie-recordings in the 2000s. Keepin’ it punk, energetic and spontaneous in all areas.
Considering many new DC bands these days aim to sound like Coldplay, Animal Collective or some sort of commercial-indie rock this band gets the crown for being more DC than DC in 2010! Seeing that these lads are from England they should head to the ole’ colonies and take over the darn nation’s capitol music scene and put it back on the map for what it was known to be about. Shouldn’t there be some special visas to allow brits to do that considering they came up with the whole America-concept to begin with?
