Eagles Of Death Metal Live @ NXNE [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]

Posted by Travis Michael Keller on August 17, 2010 at 5:32 am

As you may remember… back in June Buddyhead had a NXNE showcase up in Toronto with the likes of AA Bondy, Avi Buffalo, Mini Mansions, The Icarus Line and the legendary X! Vanessa and I packed our bags at the last second (don’t even get me started on what we had to do to get her passport, but we got that shit less than 24 hours before take off), jumped on a plane (thanks to NXNE and our good friend Tracy – thanks for making that possible for us both!) and headed north for a serious weekend of rock n’ roll!

And as soon as we stepped off that airplane, NXNE proved they weren’t fucking around at all! This wasn’t SXSW (which we’d just been to a few months prior) nor was this TexASS (thank god!). To compare NXNE to SXSW is like comparing the best blowjob you’ve ever had to having a root canal, getting fired and finding out all of your friends gangbanged your girlfriend last night, all in the same day. Yes, North By North East HOUSES South By Southwest is what I’m trying to say.

So like I said, things got rolling right away… we barely had time to drop our bags off in our luxurious hotel room (we didn’t want to leave it was so nice, plus it had a kitchen and a huge TV by the bed) before we were running across town to opening night party. That’s right, within three hours of landing and our first night in Canada we were treated to a sold out show by our friends Eagles Of Death Metal. Despite it being the first night that everyone found out that EODM bass player Brian O’ Connor had cancer the band managed to keep it positive and not let the party die. And since this show they’ve had a benefit concert in LA that I DJed at with Queens Of The Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys & EODM. (Side note: To help Brian’s medical bills you can go HERE if you’d like to pitch in and help out our buddy Brian) Jesse, in his best southern preacher voice, gave Brian (and the ladies) shout outs in between pretty much every song and Dean Fertita (who you might know from a few small bands like THE DEAD WEATHER/QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE/THE RACONTEURS and his own solo outfit, HELLO=FIRE) filled in for Brian on bass, Joey from Queens was crushing the skins and as usual Dave Catching was ripping solos all night long. I filmed what I could, but cut me some slack because you’ve gotta understand that I am just one man and I had to juggle it with drinking all their beer backstage. So yeah, no sleep, time zone changes, massive amounts of free beer stolen from the band (sorry dudes, you let me back there), my girlfriend/bestfriend was with me… Beauty, eh?

After the show we met a girl named “Cherry Cola” and she invited the band, Vanessa, myself and everyone else hanging around back to her bar, “Cherry Colas Rock ‘N Rolla Cabaret Lounge”. We found out later that the Eagles Of Death Metal song “Cherry Cola” is actually named after and/or about her and not the Coca-Cola drink. If you are ever in Toronto make sure to stop by her bar: Cherry Colas @ 200 Bathurst Street – Toronto, ON Can-a-duh! Aside from putting alcohol in my body, I also filmed sets by Mudhoney, X & AA Bondy… so stay tuned for those kids! For right now just enjoy that guy below doing what he does best above! Thanks to Jameson for putting this video footage into his computer and editing it all together. Yer a fuckin’ stud dude. Anyhow… back to EODM… Like what you saw ladies? Of course you did. Well, the only two places you’ll be able to see them play live in the near future are Mountain View, CA or New Orleans, LA, and neither of those shows are for a while. Check the dates below and  aren’t for a while. So in the meantime if you want/need more info on these derelicts go to: http://www.eaglesofdeathmetal.com/

LIVE DATES:

Sep 3 2010 @ Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA
Oct 29 2010 @ City Park in New Orleans, LA
