1. Who are your heroes?
Danny: umm.. Not sure if I’d label him as a “hero” but I really respect Alex Chilton. He just never gave a fuck and pretty much did what he wanted the whole way through. I can dig that.
2. If you weren’t making art, what do you think you’d be doing?
Danny: Probably not much… It’s pretty much all I’ve ever done in a way. I’d say music and photography have been the only constants in my life… everything else eventually falls by the wayside.
Gabriel: playing baseball!
3. What’s the best (or dumbest) thing that’s been said to you after a show?
Danny: Honestly, Gabriel and Diego get the majority of post-show love.. even some people in Miami don’t know I play in the band! Haha… So somebody telling me that they enjoyed the show is about as good as it gets for me, and I’m totally cool with that.
Gabriel: Haha, well this really funny girl here in Seattle came out to our show when we played with Coconut Coolouts… she asked me to autograph the setlist… Only thing is, it was The Coolouts’ setlist! I signed it anyway and she proceeded to sing some crazy acapella shit the rest of the night! She was buzzin’ real hard and the funny thing is she also came out to our show the following day with a bag of frozen peas on her head for her hang over… Real freakazoid!
4. Time for REAL TALK: Who is the biggest asshole you’ve ever shared a stage/studio with?
Gabriel: Well, obviously some of the bands we’ve played with have been cooler and friendlier than others… but no band in particular sticks out in my mind for being real dicks… It’s just like anything else, a sound guy can be a real dick, or a waiter at a food joint can cop a real attitude… you just gotta brush it off and keep movin’!
Danny: Yea, I feel like assholes attract assholes and we’re all pretty cool, so people coming at us on some dumb shit is luckily a fairly rare occurence.
5. What films (and/or books) really inspired you that our readers should check out for themselves?
Danny: I don’t read as much as I would like to, but a few books that I’ve recently enjoyed were A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers, Born Standing Up by Steve Martin, and The Wanderers by Richard Price. And for movies I have to say Midnight Cowboy, Rosemary’s Baby, Le Cercle Rouge, and the ultimate skate movie.. THRASHIN’!
6. Who would you rather eat dinner with, Danny Devito or Dog The Bounty
Hunter?
Gabriel: Danny F’n Devito!
Danny: Dito!
Gabriel: Danny DeDito!
7. Was middle school your “Vietnam”? What were your survival tactics?
Gabriel: Actually, I have great middle school memories… even better than high-school… High-school was a drag for me, but middle school… First sexual experiences, trippin’ out on my first times smokin’ weed, hanging out after school at park with some cuties… only tactic I needed was to keep havin’ a good time!
Danny: Yea, 7th grade was probably one of my best years of school, none stop fun! 7th and 10th grade, that’s where it was at!
8. Do you have hope for this new generation of Lindsay Lohan worshipping, TMZ sucking, music downloading (and have never owned a cd or LP), fast food gobbling teenagers? Are they a lost cause?
Gabriel: I could care less… It doesn’t matter. People are into what
they’re into… I’ll check out a Lindsay Lohan pic any day if she’s
bearing some goods.
9. You are guilty of shameful things. What are these BAAAAAD things?
Danny: Oh, I don’t know… I guess I’ll go with shitting my pants when
I was maybe a bit too old for that to happen.
10. What could you NOT live with out?
Danny: Hands down… Music! I’m pretty much always either, listening
to music, reading up on stuff or playing.
11. What’s the most important life lesson you’ve ever learned?
Gabriel: Um, that nothing matters in the grand scheme of things…
When you realize how insignificant everything is you might as well
have a fuckin’ blast while your here!
Danny: That nothing lasts forever, and that’s pretty humbling.
12. What band should people reading this be listening to?
Gabriel: There’s this new band in Miami called Heart Strings… they
should be putting out a record soon… It’s real catchy ramones-y shit
that’ll make your boogers fall out!
Danny: As I type this I’m listening to The Young Mods Forgotten Story
by The Impressions! I can’t imagine another record sounding better
right now!
13. Give the internet some words to live by…. we all know it needs some!
Danny: Everyone should just be nice and friendly… you’d be amazed
how far that can take you!
