I really like UNKLE’s last record, “War Stories”. If for some reason you didn’t hear it… buy it now from Amazon HERE! I promise it’s that good. On that record Richard File was half of UNKLE with James, played guitar, looked cool, wrote rad songs, crushed bottles of wine on stage and brought tons of attitude to the project. Well Richard File has since “split ways” with UNKLE and some new dude who (as far as I can tell so far) isn’t anywhere near as cool (or talented) has taken his place. Strike one. But I’m still excited that they have a new record coming out (that I just downloaded last night and have “skimmed”) called “Where Did The Night Fall”.

The first song I heard from this new UNKLE record was “Natural Selections”. Stream it above. It features The Black Angels and even though in my mind it would be a weak track if it was on “War Stories”, I liked it. Give em your email via this Topspin widget below and download it legally without a Web Sheriff dork getting angry. Fuck the Web Sheriff by the way! Hey Web-Pig, my balls – your chin!
UNKLE Where Did The Night Fall EPK Part 1
Doesn’t it seem like even they aren’t sure if their record is good in that EPK? Maybe it’s just me. Either way, I’m going to spend some more time with “Where Did The Night Fall” before I give it my final nail-in-the-coffin review. But where I stand right now…. I’m very unsatisfied with what I’ve heard so far and just like Slash needs Axl (what the fuck is up with that solo album by the way – makes Slash’s Snakepit sound like The Beatles), Ian Brown needs John Squire & Robert Plant needs Jimmy Page… James Lavelle of UNKLE needs Richard File. Call Richard, James! Pronto!
The new UNKLE record comes out: UK/Europe – 10 May, North America – 11 May / Japan – 5 May, Australia – 7 May.
Seeing as how no one cares about UNKLE (or goos music in general) in the US (everyone over here is too busy giving Jay Z and Kayne West rim jobs) it doesn’t look like they’ll be touring here. BUT they are playing shows in Europe so if you live over in that shitty part of the world, go see em “live”. Which means taking MDMA while these dudes jump around and twist knobs that don’t do shit while a backing track plays the music and a killer light show gives you seizures.
