“It’s four letters. It is one of the best band names in fucking history, if I do say so myself. For a while I was a little embarrassed it was maybe vulgar, but at least it’s not phallic. It’s H-O-L-E, it’s a great band name, and it’s mine.”
This is an actual Courtney Love quote. Yes, she thinks a name that allows so many puns is good. She has told Rolling Stone that her most recent LP, entitled Nobody’s Daughter, will be released using her band name again. This new Hole, which she began working on four years ago, will be produced by Michael Beinhorn and her guitarist, Micko Larkin, who are probably insane for even going anywhere near her Hole. She stated that this new effort is heavily influenced by Pink Floyd’s The Wall, which is definitely not the most cliché thing you can say. “It’s a collection of dark, ragged rock songs”, said Love when asked to describe her new Hole (with a capital H). The album has already been recorded twice. The first time, it was produced by Billy Corgan and didn’t work, so it’s being re-recorded. The songs explore greed and vengeance, according to her. Totally not ironic.
You can see her working on the album, completely sober and sounding coherent and classy, here.
