“I’m On Drugs” 7″
Charles Albright Records
When I read Travis’ review of PENS, I thought (without having heard the music) that he might’ve just been venting frustration with the fact that “low-fi” records are all over the place now and haven’t been produced with his DJing gigs in mind. All that treble won’t get the drunk white booty moving without a killer bottom end, know what I mean? Well, I might’ve judged too hastily, because I just encountered the same problem Travis did.
Charles Albright, my friend – and let me be clear that I’m addressing the musician and not the serial killer – I’m really into the songs on your amazingly titled 7″. At least, I’m pretty sure I would be if not for the horrible pain I was inflicted with from the static that’s drowning your hooks. I’m seriously glad a dog didn’t hear this around me. Those frequencies would explode a poodle.
Now, I don’t want to discourage any of you sadomasochists that dig eardrum impalement, and the three button-covered nerds that have also heard this disc are gonna snicker, but I’m going to take a pass until Charlie tames that high end.
If you wanna do the serial killer thing, it can be much more easily accomplished with a knife than it can with treble and static.
