If you “like the new Metallica”, you’re lying to yourself

God forbid anyone in any band ever grow up. I guess every band must always dress like Dio or something. Geez…no one catches a break in the metal world.

  • Ac

Have you listened to their new record?
It has gotten a lot of good reviews and mixed ones.
I like them, (up till 91) but I’m not going to buy their new album.

  • http://you-boys-do-neegra-songs? Ryan Fucking Mc

    Fucking brilliant.

  • kas

all musical talents aside this band really has grown to disappoint me :/ Aramani! come on James this is just sad and embarrassing! do my eyes serve me correctly? is that… are those… PLAID SHORTS AND FLIP FLOPS?! DUDE THAT IS SO METAL!!! :p Man if they would have pulled this shit back when i listened to them in middle school i would have been so pissed off. now i jsut think it is funny. hahaha this picture is just wrong on so many levels. james: “hey lady do you sell pre ripped blue jean jackets here? ya know the ones with the cool patches on the back?”

    ha ha,

could be dockers imprisoning me…where is Lars; oh yeah wiping his ass with benjamins in the back of that benz while he works on his next project http://earsucker.com/2008/09/06/lars-ulrich-is-still-a-douchebag/

WAIT A MINUTE, A GUY WHO WEARS A DRESS IS GONNA POST THAT PICTURE LIKE IT’S A NUKE? UH HUH. I’M THE MOST CRITICAL METALLICA FAN ON THE TIME MACHINE CALLED BUDDYHEAD, AND I FUCKIN LOVE DEATH MAGNETIC. TWO SONGS BLOW, THE REST IS AWESOME. DID METALLICA SELL OUT? YES. EVERY SEAT AT EVER STADIUM THEY HAVE PLAYED SINCE ’89. WHEN YOU WRITE RIFFS THAT GOOD, YOU CAN WEAR ANYTHING YOU WANT PUSSIES

  • Ac

I really like what you write Travis. Somtimes it’s hillarious.

  • bushKilla

Anything, including Armani is an improvement on those fucking West Coast Choppers shirts he usually wears.

The new album? It’s no Ride the Lightning, but it is the best thing they’ve done since the 80′s. If you are going to download it make sure you get the Guitar Hero version. The mix is way better.

  • dave texas

    nice!

  • http://myspace.com/suspiciousbulge suspiciousbulge

Who gives a shit where they shop. It’s a lot cooler than seeing lars still run around in spandex and shit. If i were them I’d be blowing my money on all kinds of expensive shit I don’t need either. By the way the new album is great. Even if people try to play it off like it sucks, everyone is intrigued by everything these guys do and will get some sort of guilty pleasure by listening to it.

  • Emil

    UNCLE SCOTT is a dick.

  • Tara

HAHA. Nice. Did you come up with those lyrics, Keller?

  • kas

    uncle scott

“DID METALLICA SELL OUT? YES. EVERY SEAT AT EVER STADIUM THEY HAVE PLAYED SINCE ‘89.”

you know that is a really intelligent statement, it’s almost impressed me as much as it did when i first heard Lars say that five years ago on Behind the Music: Metallica on Vh1. wow dude you need to come up with your own statements. it is sad that you thought no one would notice that you did not come up with that on your own.

  • ….

    i was born in ’89.

and let’s face it, armani is waaay better than the dirty cut off jean jackets and the narsty shorts and leather.

anyways, i love men in armani.. and dresses. looked hot on kurt looks even hotter on travis [probably, i haven't seen it unfortuantely. travis, you should defintely post a picture of that somewhere very very soon].
let’s face it suits & hippies are hot.
and since when do buddyhead care about fashion?

    as for metallica.
    LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME!

atleast nascar fans have something new to listen to.

  • Lauren

I’ve always liked Metallica. It’s not about the fashion or their families or whatever. It’s about the music. Go listen to Death Magnetic and forget that Jaymz and Rob shop at Armani, okay? As long as the music is awesome, who cares what they wear.

  • meh

who cares what they wear, the music sucks. This includes Death Magnetic. Weird, cause the enthusiasm of the perfomances is amazing, but song-wise this stuff isn’t even a pimple on the ass of their 80′s albums.

Some bands just don’t age gracefully. Hetfield’s fucked up childhood along with youth, alcohol and intense fucking rage fueled what made them great. This stuff is long gone. Without rage or alcohol Hetfield just can’t write music, and especially lyrics that have that level of transendence that made them so timeless, so you’re left with an album full of ok-ish riffs kinda pasted together performed by a band that can still play their asses off, but at this point who really cares.

  • Choc Donut

I need to hear more of DM, but I have to agree with meh. It sounds like is SHOULD work, because its a rock band and its intense, but there is no cohesion to the songs. The progressions in the songs are not natural, and sound clumped together. Lyrically, it sounds like a fax that was sent in 1986 from the Metallica star and is just getting here now – just a whisper of the past.

If someone’s good, they can wear what they want, but seeing a singer that used to be counterculture wearing flip-flops (not even decent sandals) and those god-awful plaid shorts (with a white-T) and on top of it an Armani bag, umm sorry, but WRONG. If you’re gonna fake the music, which is what this was, then fake the look please.

Also, some have said DM is over mastered and too hot, and that may be why it sounds like crap. Its an industry-wide problem these days with overly hot masters. Matters less with craprap, but with rock it destroys the warmth and depth.
