I’ll be on Indie 103FM today and I’m DJing the Vestal party tonight
Tune into Indie 103FM (or listen here online) sometime around 9am today, because I’ll be on “The Morning Show with Joe Escalante” talking about cool shit like Buddyhead, Jubilee and whatever else Joe wants to rap about. I’m bringing Mike from Jubilee / Queens of the Stone Age with me because it’s so early I need a sidekick in case I’m so tired I can’t remember how to talk. I’ve heard Joe’s show a few times and it’s pretty funny… my favorite part is David Lynch doing the weather with “The Cabin” by Josh Freese in the background.
Update: Someone recorded part of the show we were on and here it is as an mp3, enjoy. Thanks to Joe Escalante, Mark Shovel and everyone at Indie 103FM for all their support.
Travis & Mike on “The Morning Show with Joe Escalante”
Jerry Casale (Devo and Jihad Jerry) on “The Morning Show” (03.07.07)
Speaking of Devo and (their drummer, and everyone else’s too) Mr. Josh “I Don’t Know How To Call Travis Back” Freese… check out his latest youtube creation. Someone please give this man a multi-million dollar budget and let him make a full length feature film. If David Lynch gets to, Josh should too. Anyhoo… we now give you…. Josh Freese Presents: “We Are Devo And We Are Shell Boy”
Later tonight I’m DJing what sounds like it’s gonna be a really cool party down south. The soiree is celebrating the launch of Vestal’s newest collection and is being held @ the Vestal HQ (730 West 17th Street Costa Mesa, CA 92627). Some band that I’ve never heard, called Dark Meat is playing. I’m told they are a 17 piece psychedelic rock “collective”… I tried listening to them on their myspace page but it kept freezing my computer cuz they have so much shit on there, but they did have this photo on there so even if they totally suck balls it looks to be a fun party anyways. Plus I’m bringing Casper Adams and he said that if the party starts to drag and the beach bunnies aren’t into us he’ll whip his dick out and put in the cake. But I have faith that’ll it’ll be a zinger cuz Derek from Vestal told me that doors are at 8pm, it’s all ages, there will be “free absinthe bars and shit”, a preview of the 2008 Fall/Holiday Vestal line and many special guests (which I’m guessing is going to be Oasis)…. plus I’m DJing. Show up if you’re in neighborhood.

i am so confused. i’ve been an avid reader of buddyhead for years now…….and i was made to believe that travis a huge thing against the vandals and joe escalante in general. so i want the truth…..is the guy really an asshole or was that a joke way back then? or has your opinion changed since that review of “oops look what i almost stepped in.” i’ve met warren and dave and they were fucking hilarious, but i can’t remember much about joe. so, yeah, your clarification on this would be much appreciated.

Here you go “John”…. I should be sleeping but seeing as how I love all five of our readers, I’ll try and answer your question…. I don’t remember “having a huge thing against The Vandals” ever. But then again allot of the stuff we’ve written has been misunderstood because we’re not always being serious, we like to joke and poke fun at people, even our friends and ourselves (check the post before this titled “Dudes like Aaron North”) to make ourselves laugh. I think Joe is a really great dude. He’s been nice enough to plug my DJ nights a few times a week on his show and is now having me on as a guest today. I’m not a big Vandals fan and I’m sure if we ever did review any of their records they didn’t score very high. But I like all the guys in the band (Josh Freese is one of my favorite people on planet Earth) and I’ve been to the Vandals Christmas show at the House of Blues the last two years now. This past year they covered “America, Fuck Yeah!” and played “Anarchy Burger”…. was a good time.

I sat through an hour of talk radio for that? Holy fuck. The worst part was that my net connection died for the entire duration of the one Jubilee track that got played. What. The. Fuck.
And you’d better have meant it when you said Jubilee were hitting the UK in August/Sept.

Some of us in the States care about Jubilee. The offer to tour my living room still stands. I will cook you chilaquiles & we will have a gay ol’ time. Do it!

Hi babies,
It’s about 15 minutes of legal advice, 1 minute of Travis, and 0.3 seconds of Mike at the end.

Fine, whatever, don’t tour the states with Jubilee… but what about CANADA?
Haha, and what was the Maynard pickup line you couldn’t say on air?!
June 27th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
duuuuude. i only caught travis saying “Can I give a shout out to my girlfriend. Hey Troy Boy.” you shirtlifters. if the interview gets posted on youtube or in mp3 format like said above, it would be much appreciated if you guys could throw it up on here or link it. !

June 27th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
You dudes should have Joe hook you up with a guest DJ spot for Jonesy this summer. Shit would kill for sure. They let fucking Knoxville do it…
June 27th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
aha prime. i’m gunna go back to work now. have fun in the heat.
June 27th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Travis, have fun tonight. I live right by there. Endeavors like Volcom, RVCA and Black Flys all have their facilities in that area (and they all throw parties). Beware, Hollywood does show up. I went to a RVCA party for Mark Mothersbaugh in one of those warehouses. It was fag-factor-five (although I enjoyed Deva doing the Devo covers). Good luck, get drunk.
June 27th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
The shout out to your “girlfriend” was classic brah! LOL LOVED it! Wish I could have heard more, but I am sure it will leak out here eventually.
Another one of my fave parts was you saying how Axl needs to hang out with you just for one day and you can make him “cool” again!
About Jubilee!!!! We WANT you to play in the US…
I need to see a great live band and hear jubillees music live!!!! Come on!!! I have three sofas and a bed in my attic apartment! I have pictures of Dylan and Lennon on the walls!!! YOU can stay here FREE!!! I might even cook! You should do a couch surfing tour. I have beer and weed!!! LOL No, seriously I am so going off bout this only b/c you guys need to play here b/c we do care!

June 28th, 2008 at 4:13 am
thanks for the file, Kate!
June 29th, 2008 at 9:59 am
well, hey there travis thank you for the nice reply. i knew that there was a always a lot of stuff that was “tongue-in-cheek”, but sometimes it was hard to tell what was a joke and what was really malicious. especially back then when that review came out…..there was a lot of scathing shit going on in the gossip section.
it kind of reminds me of when i found out that you and courtney love were really friends. it was like “whoa…..maybe these guys really aren’t the total dicks everyone makes them out to be!” but then again it wouldn’t matter if you guys really were, because the shit you guys write is funny as hell. and has kept me coming back for about 10 years now.
in fact i think about the only good thing reading spin magazine has ever done for me was pointing me towards this website. haha.

Was/Isn’t Joe Escalante in the Vandals?
July 2nd, 2008 at 12:00 pm
Seriously, somebody needs to give Freese a limitless budget and have him make some sort of cinematic masterpiece.
