Set Phasers To Rave
Because of Meathead’s post about Radiohead I’ve gotten some pretty sweet hate mail. It’s like Buddyhead 1999 in my inbox the last few days, reminds of back when people actually read what we wrote here and stuff. Ahh, the glory days! Anyways you gotta check out the hate after the jump.
With the goal of cheering this place up, I figured it was time I posted a photo that displays one of my favorite sayings… “SET PHASERS TO RAVE!” This photo was taken in a shitty backstage on this past Jubilee UK tour in Leeds. It’s titled “Set Phasers To Rave!” Click to make it bigger so you can read all that.
I just like the idea of Setting my phaser to rave. Sounds like it’d be a good time. Whatever it is.
Here’s the hatemail I got form THIS post Meathead wrote.
“you’re fronting like you are mocking Radiohead and all their fame, but here’s the bottom line deal:
you are manipulating their competition to gain exposure for your cynical and ugly blog. you are actually riding on the backs of what Radiohead have created through sincere musical efforts in order to gain mention in the music press… ha ha.. you’re fucking clever… you can get all those pussies at the indie press sites like Pitchfork to write whiny posts about how Meathead won the competiion…. and everything will point to your website… how fucking clever
you will have succesffuly mocked hte band and all their fans and anyone who put time and effort into making a mix… because all those remixers are fags anyway right? little hipster fags… isn’t that what you guys think?
just remember… the exposure that you are trying to gain from this is ultimately coming from Radiohead’s fame and history, which you can’t fucking touch…. you’re scummy little shits compared to what they’ve accomplished… so go eat a fuckign dick”"
Replacement’s reissue’s are coming out this month and there’s a rumor they might be the band to hop on Coachella last minute. It’d be neat, but it’s not gonna happen. At least they’re gonna put these records out with bonus tracks… We’ll have a contest for them really soon. Keep an eye out. Pretty sure this song isn’t on any of the reissues.

i’m so torn between my love of Radiohead and my man love of Buddyhead. Arrggghhh!!
April 6th, 2008 at 11:16 am
I love buddyhead but i don’t find their blogging engine to be very efficient… I wonder what Radiohead uses…
April 6th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
someone should really use spell check before sending hatemail. misspelled words really make you look stupid and therefor affect the credibility of your opinion.
April 6th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
Dont get me wrong I like Radiohead but the fact that theyre pretty much being credited for reinventing the music industry with all of there groundbreaking “original” ideas is is complete shite.
April 6th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Radiohead is complete shit now, end of story. Talk to me back when they released “The Bends” or “OK Computer” and I would tell you they were the greatest things to happen on this Earth, but now?
Now they just take advantage of the position they put the music industry in to make more money. They’re like a second music industry, and we don’t need more fucking music industries then what we already have. I’d rather go kiss Al Gore’s ass then Thom Yorke’s anyday.
April 6th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Wow.
People can be a little crazy.
Dear Hate Mailer,
Meathead does SATIRE ~ I guess you either get it or you don’t.
April 6th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Ashley,
You spelled “Therefore” wrong, so that’s kind of ironic given what you said. I actually kind of chuckled and almost hoped you meant to spell it incorrectly.
April 6th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
stop hearing and start listening!
April 6th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Haha. Radiohead sucks anyway.
As a matter of fact, don’t like them or any of their fans.
Haha. Radiohead.
April 6th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
I really like tumblr’s blogging engine… tumblr.com
April 6th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
like i warned you before….you are talkin about family or are mama. Us radioheads fans are nice until you step on are oxford brothers toes.
April 6th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
oops…sorry ashley bad word placement errors or whatever. ‘Are’ instead of ‘our’. i had a late night.
April 6th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Wow…. they can’t spell.
April 6th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
I laughed my ass off when I read Meathead’s post and I have the biggest boner in the world for Radiohead! If you don’t like them good for you but you are missing out bimbo baggins.
April 6th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
How can anyone really hate Radiohead? With the exception of all that news coverage for releasing their last album for free (and how fucking cool was that) they aren’t in your face and all over the radio/MTV (Like say U2, Nickleback, or Staind). Thier fans can be annoying, but thats fans of anything/anyone. Besides, everything they have released has at least been interesting/creative (good is an opinion, interesting and creative is a fact). The new album kicks ass in my opinion, I’d put House of Cards or Bodysnatchers up against some of the classic stuff anyday. It’s not better, it’s different… and isn’t that better in the end anyway?
Speaking of Staind, can someone make a post about how after mudshovel that band sold thier soul to the ballad Gods and wrote the same song 14 times on God knows how many albums?
April 6th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
So Radiohead is evil because of their marketing strategy? This makes their music not relevant? Not everyone wants to sleep on their friends couches for the rest of their lives. Last I heard, successful adults make money so they can have a place to live by getting a job.
Also, Radiohead is signed to TBD Records in the US, which means they have a record label behind them marketing their music. They haven’t been leaders of shit in the digital world, but you can’t blame them for needing a paycheck.
Get a life. Anyone who still listens to The Verve and Oasis has no valid reason for saying Radiohead is anything worse than other popular nineties nostalgia bands.
Why do I read this shit anymore?
April 6th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
trent reznor ice cold called out radiohead a few weeks back for their wackass faux-revolutionary in rainbows release. trent reznor started winning the day he left high school and stopped getting snowballs thrown at him by future tattoo artists and he ain’t never stopped.
April 6th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Trent is just a pissed toad smoker. If In Ghost or whatever that shit stained record was called he just released was worth a fart he could have some grounds to speak on. He should go overdose on roids.
April 6th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
And Liz well said baby!
April 6th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Um Liz I think that’s a different Travis…
April 6th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Yeah man… FAKE TRAVIS… you gotta change your name. This is Buddyhead and I’m the only Travis here… you gotta change your name to like fake Travis or Travis (not the buddyhead one) or Travis (insert your last name here)… anything… Travis ain’t gonna fly anymore chump.
I like Radiohead and I think TDB is a great label.
April 6th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Haha. Radiohead.
April 6th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
…Oh, and by the way, The Verve and Oasis fuckin’ slay Radiohead - even old Radiohead when they used guitars.
(now watch how many dorks wanna point out what tracks have guitars on their new record.)
April 6th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Yea, I remember that rumour about the Replacements being scheduled to play last year as well. Then Paul drilled a hole in his hand & put the rumour to rest.
Is he able to play guitar again? Is he plannin’ on tourin’ any time soon?
April 6th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
liz, take deep breaths, it will be okay.
i’m alright with the new radiohead, not my favorite, but it’s okay.
what i’m really cool with is bands getting off of the big bloated labels and exploring new ways to get music out into the world. if it takes radiohead or nin to put their personal money on the line to try and figure out ways to get new music out without the musicians getting screwed, more power to them. i also think it’s cool what jubilee is trying out. there needs to be a new way of doing things.
April 6th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Shit Travis, I’m flying sky high.
April 6th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Hate mail is a concept with less credibility than remix.radiohead.nin(oh shit dude take that out!).com
April 6th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
At the level Radiohead are on, its near impossible to get your music out there, on such a grand level, without belonging to some kind of industry machine.
The fans didn’t get ripped off, they made a wad. And thats the only difference.
Sucks about paying for the remix tracks. That shit should be free.
Buddyhead rocks. Radiohead rocks, just in a slightly more homoerotic fashion
April 6th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Thanks for the Replacements tune. I’m looking forward to hearing “God Damn Job” in all it’s remastered glory.
April 7th, 2008 at 2:01 am
Man people need to fuckin take a chill pill, what’s with all the f’n hatemail, geez, just for the record I love Radiohead, and think their new album is pretty good,it’s no Kid A,Ok Computer,or even Hail to the thief, but it’s a solid piece of work anyways,I even downloaded it when it first became available ,and then when it came out on C.D I bought it again, maybe I’m just a big dork, but that’s the way it is.Hey Look on the bright side,The Replacements are reissueing all their albums, can I get a hip hop hooray, anyways I thought the whole reissue game was getting a little watered down,I mean a few months back I saw a reissue for a Counting Crows album(the Counting Fucking Crows, fucking shitting me),Its also good to see Staind getting mentioned on this site again,it was Limp Bizkit post a few months back and now another reminder of how shitty popular music in the late 90’s early 00’s really were, can’t wait for the inevitable mention of the Juliet Theory, just gives me chills Peace,Respect!!!
April 7th, 2008 at 9:42 am
…and this kids is why getting laid is important every few years.
April 7th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
As soon as I heard the line “I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul”, I threw up in my mouth and Radiohead got nexted.
Axl Rose snarling about sluts and Night Train “resonates” with me a hell of a lot more than any faggy art school poof moaning about whatever the fuck those songs are about.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Damn, hatemailer… sense of humor much?
April 7th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
reminds me of a blog I wrote a few weeks ago….

i have been reading buddyhead religiously for almost 8 years.
i have been listening to radiohead for about the same amount of time.
meathead’s post was great.
the very fact that it pissed people off just makes it that much better.
long live the head(s).
FARTICHOKE
April 7th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Does anyone else have blue ooze gushing from chode?
April 7th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Yeah AJ, I went to high school during the late 90’s/early 00’s and it was hard man. Staind wasn’t even the worst, hearing ‘Crawling’ from Linkin Park or ‘Rolling’ from Limp Bizkit blasting out of every car sterio sucked, I’m surprised I can still hear anything at all. I’m pretty sure that anyone that purchased a ‘Family Values’ CD is unsuccessful in life.
My musical hell is Fred Durst & Staind dedicating the next 200 performances of ‘The Outside’ to me in front of Josh Homme, Jimi Hendrix, and Layne Stanley.
April 8th, 2008 at 12:54 am
Well if Josh Homme was there I would be ashamed for Staind and Fred Durst.
April 8th, 2008 at 1:40 am
Total fuckin dork here; but while we’re blasting and/or sucking off recent albums, are we ever going to see a best and worst of 07? That Queens record was sweeet! huh guys.
April 8th, 2008 at 11:57 am
weird, i thought radiohead invented music and that buddyead invented funny. and someone post charlie sheens phone number.

Hey now, let’s not rip on terrible bands from 10 years ago when there are so many around right now. Reminiscing about Staind just brought back terrible memories… Thanks for ruining my day.
That bald mongoloid pretending he was Bob Fucking Dylan was pretty amusing though, in that “I can’t look away from two monkeys fucking” kind of way.
April 8th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
If you’re the record trading/stealing scumbag
Rob aka Guy aka anaconda_zoloft- I am surprised you are not dead….won’t be too long fuckhead
April 8th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Cool mail!
Yay for Radiohead.
Yay for Buddyhead.
Yay for Trent.
Yay for Oasis.
Nay for BVA.
Did someone piss on that wall?
April 8th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Easy there tough guy.
April 8th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
you guys should totally meet behind the willow trees and fight to the death.
April 8th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Era Vulgaris is awesome. Did you know they have a good chunk of songs from the Vulgaris sessions that they were gonna release but couldn’t because the label wasn’t interested? (or so Wikipedia told me).
Anyway, I’m hoping they go all Radiohead and release new shit online from now on, don’t want the record company to decide when I get new Queens.
April 9th, 2008 at 9:05 am
I still think its funny Liam Gallagher once called Raidohead “fookin’ stoodents”. haha.. funny funny britz.
April 9th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Haha…..you said it….total fucking dork
April 11th, 2008 at 5:27 am
