Help Wanted - Eric Avery’s (of Jane’s Addiction) new band
So for those of you who really know me, (which I’m going to guess is about 0.001% of you readers out there) know how much I’m in love with Jane’s Addiction; well old Jane’s anyways (86-91). You’ve probably seen me losing my mind air-drumming to songs like “Whores” or “Trip Away” behind the DJ booth with my homeboy Travis… “This is my new friend Roxy, isn’t she swell?” “GET INTO IT ROXY”
Help Wanted - “All Remote And No Control”
I don’t think I should have to say anything else about this band, other than, If your weren’t into them at some point in your life, you were probably a huge DORK!!! You might wanna go out and buy their first (pseudo) live record on XXX records. They actually do a couple sick covers, The Rolling Stone’s - “Sympathy For The Devil” and The Velvet Underground’s - “Rock n Roll”. Then you might wanna move on to “Nothings Shocking”, their first studio album. Aside from the weird production, and the fact that “Whores” wasn’t on this thing, the record is amazing. And “Ritual De Lo Habitual” their 3rd record is a master piece… period.
About a year ago I read WHORES: An Oral Biography of Perry Farrell and Jane’s Addiction and I have to say it’s a pretty nice read… This book pretty much covers everything: Dave Navarro’s mother’s murder, controversy over album covers, Psi Com (Farrell’s first band) and even Jane Bainter herself. Turns out she wasn’t totally psyched about Perry using her heroin problem as a band name.
Another thing I found from this read was how much Eric Avery rules, and how important his role was in Jane’s. It ends up most of their best songs were based around the bass lines that he came up with. “Whores”, “Mountain Song”, “Pigs in Zen” and “Three Days” just to name a few. And since homeboy left the band, they were never the same.
Avery has kept a fairly low profile since the demise of Jane’s Addiction. However, he did participate in the Deconstruction project with Navarro immediately after the Jane’s break up. He was also invited to play bass with Tool but declined to concentrate on his own band Polar Bear that he formed in 1994. Since then he’s worked on a hand full of other shit: recorded a few tracks with Alanis Morissette, Toured with Garbage for a bit and even auditioned for Metallica after the departure of Jason Newsted.
Anyways, Avery has been working on his own solo project called Help Wanted and is due to be released April 8th on Dangerbird and should be pretty good from what I’ve heard so far. I’ve only heard one track and it sounds a little like a futuristic Joy Division to me. Maybe I’m totally tripping on this one, please let me know if I am… I also hear that Taylor Hawkins and Flea will be holding down the rhythm section on most of these tunes. I have to say it’s a little ironic that Flea is playing bass when in fact he filled in on bass after Avery declined on the whole Relapse tour that totally sucked balls.
Anyways, here are some tracks from one of my all time
favorite bands and one new track from this “Help Wanted”. Tell me what you think of this.
Oh, and check out Jane’s live just ripping it.
And the softer side…

Ummmm Troy… yer a little high… NOTHING SHOCKING is their best studio record.
But thanks for “Whores” with the unedited intro and way better sound than the one on the actual record… new Avery ain’t bad either.
Cool shit.
March 30th, 2008 at 7:33 am
And… can we talk about what the fuck happened to Navarro? At what point did he become one of the JIVEST people on planet Earth?
March 30th, 2008 at 7:36 am
Eric is seriously under-rated!
March 30th, 2008 at 10:17 am
i have to say that three days is a great sunday morning jam (thanks for reminding me troy!), but there are better songs on nothings shocking.
when did navarro become one of the jivest people? take your pick: when he stopped doing h, started hanging out with flea, or when he stopped wearing tutus. whatever happened, he needs to figure that shit out and get back on track to being a cool guitarist.
March 30th, 2008 at 11:33 am
now dave has directed and edited a porn flick(which some of you may enjoy). he divorced lovely Carmen electra and his tv reality show is off. Mr. Sexy still walks around with no tee on, which is fine by me.
March 30th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
people that become jive were always jive. he was just some greasy shredder in a cool band. now he’s a douche template. who cares.
March 30th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
now travis, was this worth the personal facebook message? i’ve never really listened to janes addiction. except for everyone at parties playing “jane says” on their acoustic guitars.
i don’t mean to be such a negative nancy…here’s a positive story:
i saw X 2 weeks ago and perry farrell introduced them. it was kind of cool, but i think perry thought he was in LA, cuz he kept saying “we” when referring to LA, not austin. aside from that, it was cool.

Hey Pill Boy, I was NEVER into Janes Addiction. You calling me a pussy? Only time I ever thought that band was cool was last summer when we were all driving back from Bakersfield after OWNING the greatest strip club ever called the TEASER PLEASER. I was SUPER high on pills in the passenger seat while Das Corpse drove us home at 110mph while CRUSHING 9 hagen daz bars. HAHAHA. For that one moment, the song Whores was alright for me. Prior to that, that band is some homo shit.
March 30th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
i forgot the real reason i responded to that at all:
i saw “help wanted” and thought someone was offering me a job.
March 30th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
For my money, Navarro started sucking (publicly) circa his joining the Chili Peppers.
Everyone on the same page there?
BTW, that Deconstruction record is bad as shit - do yourselves a favor and scope it out.
March 30th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Hey Troy… the fire sprinklers just came on… Uncle Scott just NUKED you.
March 30th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
I agree on the Deconstruction record. I have some of the demos they did in 92/93. The panic channel & satellite party are the worst post janes band ever.
March 30th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
That Whores song almost sounds as homo as one of those Jubilee songs. Def. not my style, but to each is own.
March 30th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
i can still get behind some MOUNTAIN SONG
http://youtube.com/watch?v=LgF7yxIjY8E
when they were rad, they were so rad. Perry is one of my favorite jew brothers of all time that wacky motherfucker
March 30th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
dont like song.do like ritual…habitual.
March 30th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Hey Unkle Scott… I remember that night. I had a blast. I also remember asking you how bad Chris Cornell wished he was Perry, and then got laughed at.
But the truth is, Soundgarden wouldn’t have sold any records if it weren’t for Jane’s…
Oh, and Check out this quote from your boy Cornell. suck on that old guy!!!
CHRIS CORNELL: “I think a lot of people out there [in Seattle] think that rock’n'roll changed in the early ’90s when Nirvana showed up, and everyone had a big hit. But it didn’t really work that way. There were bands like Jane’s Addiction that laid the groundwork. Musically, [Jane’s] had a huge impact on Soundgarden.”
uhhh yeah…. ’nuff said.

March 30th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
And yeah, I am calling you a pussy.
let’s fight.
March 30th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
MOUNTAIN SONG=song most played by dipshit bass players during sound checks
I don’t care what Chris Cornell says, Janes Addiction sucks crazy balls…Fopp and rock!
March 30th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
hey Jeff Lynne, Tell some bands your into. I’m curious as what you think is cool.
March 30th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
be sure to video the fight and post it on youtube!
and i don’t care what chris cornell says, either…at least not until he gets back together with kim, matt and ben.
hey jeff lynne, elo is pretty cool, too.
March 30th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Sparks,Dwight Twilley,dBs,20/20,the Move,Dead Boys,Emitt Rhodes,any Stax/Hi/Goldwax etc. records,Phil Collins,any Trojan records,the toms, rockpile,zombies,spencer davis group….basically old shit. I also think Paul is by far the best Beatle.
Badmotorfinger is better than any Jane’s Addiction record.
March 30th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
yellow pills is a cool song.
March 30th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
“Jeff Lynne’s” list sounds just like Colin Grigson from Bad News talking to his mother on the phone.
BTW, there’s an “L” in Wilbury, same letter that LOSER starts with.
Badmotorfinger has the lamest production of any SG album, some great tracks, Ritual is a fucking masterpiece, Paul is the dung Beatle.
March 30th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
You can talk shit about me but Ringo is the dung Beatle.
March 30th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Good comeback Potsie
March 30th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
fuck this brings back memories. I fucking wore out my ritual cassette…I remember listening to Janes, then fucking rocking out to The Toadies. Can we talk about how cool The Toadies are now?
March 30th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
is that the version of whores from kettle whistle?
March 31st, 2008 at 12:04 am
still loving mountain song, don’t care ! Troy Boy I’m backing you on anything you say this time
March 31st, 2008 at 12:42 am
Without overthinking the who, what and why.. Yeah! Jane’s Addiction!
I could party with Perry.
If you don’t look into stuff too much, Eric Avery can appear less.. well, less.
Hopefully the new shit rips for him.
Ahh, and on the other side of understated.. Dave….
Can’t help but like him, in spite of JIVENESS. I mean, he plays good, still does his thing musically or whatever, seems like a nice enough guy, and, um.. http://myspace-280.vo.llnwd.net/00711/08/26/711596280_m.jpg yep.
March 31st, 2008 at 4:04 am
Wow Help Wanted sounds pretty fucking good,it’s good to see someone from Jane’s Addiction finally doing something worthwile, instead of fucking garbage like Camp Freddy’s watching the Panic Channel at the Satellite Party or whatever the fuck they’ve been doing, and Ritual de Habitual is a great album but Nothing’s Shocking is the superior album, sorry Troy Boy,anyways I used to listen to Jane’s Addiction as a young skater kid growing up in a cowtown in Colorado, and their music always represented to me what California was all about, and needless to say when I made it out there I was right!!!
March 31st, 2008 at 4:10 am
Also is anybody hankering for a Porno for Pyros reunion,as much as I am,I know I might get some heat but,to me the Pornos were just the continuation of Jane’s Addiction, and the endless possibilities if Jane’s had just stayed togeather for a for a couple more albums, nowbody can listen to listen to God’s good urge and tell me they sucked,no way, anyways I’d rather see a pornos reunion than another crappy Jane’s reunion,am I alone people!!!
March 31st, 2008 at 8:14 am
How can you not like the song called “WHORES”… the lyrics along are amazing… don’t even get me started on that bassline.
HEAR ME GO OFF
JANE’S ADDICTION LYRICS
“Whores”
Way down low where the streets are littered
I find my fun with the freaks and the niggers
I dont want much man give me a little
Or Im gonna take my chances if i get ‘em
I love them whores they never judge you
What can you say when your a whore?
They cast that pearl and it don’t upset ‘em
They take their chances if they get ‘em
Hear me go off!
Give me some more!
Mother fucker!
Need a little more
Goddamn you!
Give me some more!
Mother fucker!
Give me some more!
You give me breadcrumb uh - hu
I’m tired of living the bosses’ dream
They’ll squeeze you dry man if you let em
Better take your - take your - take your chances if you get em
Hear me go off!
Give me some more!
Mother fucker!
Need a little more
Goddamn you!
Give me some more!
Mother fucker!
Give me some more

So last night I was unmercifully banging Nick A’s mom, in the ass of course, and boy was she gaping…I mean a full on gape. Sir Paul showed up with a prosthetic leg(he won in the divorce) and I’ll be damned if he didn’t start fucking Nick A’s mom with it. Needless to say many high fives were shared and we even let Ringo watch all the while the first Sparks record was blasting.
Zeppelin II,Funhouse,There’s A riot Going On, and Paul’s girthy cock are all masterpieces. Ritual is a record you’re nostalgic for because you used to listen to it on your walkman while you mowed the lawn. Big fucking difference.
March 31st, 2008 at 11:20 am
I can confirm that everything written above is true. I would also like to add that while lil’ Nick A was mowing the lawn rocking out to Jane’s Addiction, I was being fingered in the house by George Harrison.
March 31st, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Nick A’s mom? I fingered her. True story.
March 31st, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Alright Troy Boy - Janes are cool. I like that first demo thing way more than the records. The MAIN posi thing about Janes that nobody is talking about is: dirty druggy girls LOVE janes addiction. And dudes LOVE dirty druggy girls. Shityeah
March 31st, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Ummm and he says… hear me go off.
March 31st, 2008 at 7:12 pm
I gotta agree with AJ, how about some Porno for Pyro’s love? Anyway, Janes are awesome, I think Ritual is a bit more ‘classic’ than NS, but regardless they deserve the cred they get. Fruity as Dave is, he can still shred better than most, no number of nipple rings or waxings can take that away from him.
For the record, Cornell is jive: http://web.stargate.net/soundgarden/images/skateboard.jpg

Alright finally some love for Porno for Pyros,it’s about f’n time, also does anybody remember the singer from Panic Channel from when he was a D.J on MTV back in the day, needless to say what a giant douche the dudes from Jane’s Addiction have become, atleast Eric gives us some hope, also I just learned something,Uncle Scott hates gays, but loves tweeker chicks, who says you don’t learn stuff from Buddyhead!!!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Listen Janes is probably the last best band of the 90s, a band even Henry Rollins said was the best live act hes seen since Bad Brains.. Even Axel knows it…
There wont be anything as powerful and hard hitting as Janes.. And Jeff Lyne Sparks is so fucking boring, gay and so goddamn fruity youre a fag, janes rules
April 1st, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Oh how I love them whores.
April 1st, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Jeff Lyne is no fag.
April 1st, 2008 at 7:51 pm

so last year at sxsw I was suprised to get a text to my phone: free show: Perry Farrel at La Zona Rosa. Well we had just gotten kicked out of the venue we were at at figured we’d think about it.
Nostalgic for some Janes’ covers, we decided to check it out. It was the most laughable display of poser pop bullshit I’ve ever seen. Our gay friend who happened to work the bar that night said ” that has to be the gayest shit I’ve ever seen.”
The best part was a few months later, when I saw the album cover and even better, the video for Satellite Party! weak sauce.
I felt bad for my GF though, she thought Farrel was cool up until that point. And she’s right he was kind of cool up until that point. Dude should have quit awhile ago.

Satellite Party caused the audiences’s collective gaydar to implode, then reassemble and sodomise itself when they played the Download festival last year.
Fake tits, faggy keyboard voices and a set that consisted of about nine songs, five of which (FIVE) were songs from Ritual.
Words can’t convey how cock in mouth ‘Ain’t No Right’ sounded with that Nuno guy shredding all over it.
The Avery album also comes out the day before my birthday ;)
When’s the Shit Yeah album coming out???
April 17th, 2008 at 2:03 am
Eric is joining Jane’s for a one off show!
