New Billy Bragg - Anti Records Sampler
One of Buddyhead’s favorite recording artists, Billy Bragg, has a new record coming out through Anti Records. It hits stores on April 8th in the US and it’s already out in other parts of the world. By the way, how fuckin’ cool is Anti Records? They’ve got Grinderman, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Merle Haggard, Bob Mould, Elliott Smith, Joe Strummer, The Locust, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, etc… Head on over to their label blog to download their new label sampler (or just click here to simply download the zip file of the sampler) which contains the first single called “I Keep The Faith” off Billy’s new album “Mr. Love & Justice”. Here’s an old hit and the new single kids…
Billy Bragg - “I Keep Faith” video
If you’re not already on team Billy Bragg… jump the fuck on board first by checking out “A New England” (which is one of his most well known songs). Think of him as Bob Dylan meets The Clash with a touch of an English Bill Hicks thrown in there too.
When I saw Billy Bragg play live last year in LA at the Fonda, he killed it. I can’t remember the last time I was so captivated by just a man and his guitar (let alone a full band). The show was so good that I even enjoyed his stage banter. If you wanna get a taste of that, check out his blog on his website @ or pick up the book he wrote called “The Progressive Patriot: A Search For Belonging” (that I actually just borrowed from Aaron and started reading today)… The dude has a lot to say. More videos if you click continue reading….

You’ve got to be fucking kidding. I had to painfully endure about 10-20 minutes of his set while waiting for Battles at the BDO this year. In reflection, I would have rather plunged AIDs infested needles into my eyes.

I had “A New England” stuck in my head when I woke up this morning, I mean, noon. I just got it out about an hour ago. Annnnd, now it’s back in.
Tell us more about the book when you’ve finished reading it.

I’m with you in this Adrian. I just cannot get into Billy Bragg at all. His voice does not do it for me and neither do his records. I missed the bus on him and Saul Williams, whose new reocrd, even with Trent all over it, still blows. Sorry, paunchitos but when he plays at the El Rey next month and Saul at the Troubadour next week, I will gladly pass on Billy Bragg.

I saw him play at BDO this year, and I thought he was AWESOME! I’d only heard A New England but I liked it so much I figured he’d be worth catching… and yeah, he was. Seems to be one of those acts you love or hate though.
And didn’t he make some big stand against MySpace? Made them clear up the fine print on what they could do with songs bands uploaded, or something.

Sadly I’m not joking. It was painful to watch the end of his set. It just seemed really lame to me, and his efforts to get people to sing-a-long and involved with what he was doing were pretty futile. Perhaps I saw it out of context and because all I wanted was to see Battles, I may have been impatient. But in my honest opinion, it was pretty god-damn awful. Prove me wrong, though.

I caught him at one of the BDOs, I believe it was Sydney, and I thought he was pretty good, rather sit through him then the Hilltop Hoods.

don’t listen to him that much these days but you gotta admit it was amazing when him and jeff tweedy decided to write music for old Woody Guthrie lyrics and absolutely killed it (Mermaid Ave.) anyone who has never heard this you gotta pick it up.

The albums he did with Wilco(entitled Mermaid Avenue Vol. 1 and 2) are pretty bad ass. They’re all Woody Guthrie tunes but it fucking rules. Oh and to whoever said that Saul Williams album sucks, is totally right.

Yeah if you’re waiting to see battles, Billy Bragg prolly isnt your cup of tea (no pun intended). Its a britsh dude singing really rad lyrics and its just him and an electric guitar playing SONGS.

I got one of his records (forget the name) at a flea market. The guy sold me the billy bragg record with weird al’s “dare to be stupid” for like three dollars. Draw whatever conclusions you desire from this transaction.

billy bragg’s a fucken genius.
He did a mash-up with Kate Nash with “New England” and Kate Nash’s “Foundation” at the NME Awards 2008.
Where Ms.Nash stated that The Cribs are a better live band than Muse. [love muse, always have, never seen them live though. i’ve only heard one cribs song and found it a bit annoying].
but yeah, she only said that cause she’s shaggin’ the lead singer of the cribs; either gary, ryan or ross, don’t know which one, but they’re all brothers and look like wet socks, so it doesn’t really matter anyways.
Don’t know how i feel about Nash either, she’s got a cockney accent and decent songs[storyline wise] but the actual music is just waay too pop for me. It’s funny hearing Kelly Osbourne slag her off though.
Any buddyheader ever have a run in with any of the Osbournes?
