FUCK YEAH! NEW MUDHONEY! OLD MUDHONEY!
See getting older CAN be cool. Just look at Sub Pop and Mudhoney, they’re both turning 20 this year. And to celebrate their wrinkles Sub Pop is putting out as many Mudhoney records as they can. And that kicks ass in my book.
Speaking of Mudhoney records, someone at Sub Pop (I know one of your fuckers read this site) needs to send me that “Live Mud” LP you put out last year as well as everything below too as payment for writing about this band so much. Come on dudes… you owe me.
Anyways, back to Mudhoney… Yeah, these dudes are back with their best record in ten years called “The Lucky Ones”. It’s their eighth record and it’s a fuckin’ rock n’ roll classic! Now that’s rare. It’s a must buy for any non-pussy rock fan! Check out track number uno on this baby called “I’m Now”, it rips!
As well as a new Mudhoney record, Sub Pop is also putting out a remastered deluxe edition of Superfuzz Bigmuff (which the label “unfortunately, failed to convince the band to call Superduperfuzz Biggermuff??…) that contains the original ??Superfuzz… EP in its correct running order, the singles, a couple demos , nine songs live in Berlin 1988 and six songs live on KCSB. All of which is pretty sick, which made it hard to pick what to share with you…
Check out the first two tracks from the live in Berlin 1988 show. You gotta love stage banter like “Ich bin Berliner” which was a reference to JFK’s “I am a donut” bloop in Germany back in the day. Mudhoney was rad, is rad and most likely will always be rad.
Mudhoney - No One Has (live in Berlin 1988)
Mudhoney - Sweet Young Thing (live in Berlin 1988)
And if that wasn’t enough Mudhoney for you then check out the interview I did with Mark Arm for Buddyhead back in 2005 (which because we haven’t had time to upload the archives - isn’t even on Buddyhead anymore), their cover of Void’s “Dehumanized” (which sounds amazing really loud through a PA) and the “Gimme Skelter” version of “Hard-On For War”.
Mudhoney - “Dehumanized” (Void cover)
Mudhoney - Hard-On For War (Gimme Skelter version)
Update: Mark Arm among other “grunge icons” are in the new TAD DVD titled “Busted Circuits And Ringing Ears“. Which is actually more about the whole Sub Pop scene than it is about TAD so it’s a pretty good watch. I recommend it.

Mudhoney destroys all in it’s path.
Are they gonna re-master “Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge”? That album definitely NEEDS a remaster because it’s so damn quiet but, nonetheless, their second best behind “Superfuzz Bigmuff”. All this Mudhoney news makes me happy.
Along with Wire, Stephen Malkmus, and Sonic Youth, Mudhoney seem to be that rare breed that still kicks ass despite getting older/mellower.

Oh, and Nick Cave still kicks ass along with those others; “Lie Down Here (And Be My Girl)” from the new album slays all that weak shit that’s been coming out lately.

‘No One Has’ live kicks serious ass. I remember hearing this for the first time on the comp. album for Charles Peterson’s photo book “Screaming Life.” I don’t know if it’s still in print but it is a must have nevertheless.

Mudhoney kills.

Thanks for new Mudhoney. May 20 is going to be a great day.

I must admit I’m in the Our Band Could be Your Life school of thought that these guys peaked early on with “Touch Me I’m Sick”. That said, the new tracks sound killer. Any word on a Phil Collins collaboration?
March 16th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
No word on Phil yet but if you check out the new TAD dvd… Mark Arm is in it and says really cool shit…. I posted the trailer above update style.

Now Were Talking, see if you’re good enough, good things happen to you,and now we got some new Mudhoney, and I must say it Fookin Rips, and you have to be stoked about the rereleased Superfuzz BigMuff, but they should do that with all their releases, especially their Self Titled Release which is my favorite and also the extremely underated gems like piece of Cake and When Tommorrow Hits, and what is all this badmouthing of Tad,they were sick, and on could give Soundgarden a run for their money, just check out God’s Balls,or 8-Way Santa and you’ll see what I mean!!!

Kim Thayil looks like he’d get a hard time at LAX post-911. They probably triple check his Gretsch guitar case.

I saw them play with the Melvins at the Henry Fonda. Everyone left. It was obvious who’s music held up and who’s hadn’t. Why don’t you guys post anything about the Melvins? I only got into them a few years ago but they really are amazing. Everytime I see them it’s a friggin’ revelation.
March 17th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
The Melvins with Big Business are siiiiiick. Nice name by the way, I’ll bet people will hate you thinking it’s me.
March 17th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Ah, new Mudhoney. Nice to know they still got it after all these years.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:34 am
thinking you is who? im lower case. yea, the Melvins are better than ever. Ive never seen such a crushing band really. their influence ended hair metal and they didnt even know or care. mudhoney was like a pathetic cover band playing after them.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:52 am
C’mon can any band nowadays fuck with the Melvins Live,With the exception of the Cramps,I don’t think so!!!
March 18th, 2008 at 3:46 am
Hey Mike you asked why we don’t ever post about Melvins? We have and do. Melvins are cool but I’m not a huge fan either.. I’m with Aaron, my favorite song of theirs is a Wipers cover.

And I Djed the show Melvins played with Flipper and Mudhoney here in LA @ the Fonda…
My opinion… Melvins took home the bronze, Flipper kicked their asses to get a hold of the silver and Mudhoney blew everyone off the stage, grabbed the gold and spiked it! They played their first record, all the singles, a fang cover and Black Flag’s “Wasted” with Keith Morris…. It’s a no brainer dude. Wake up! Mudhoney won that show. Sorry for the rant… but come on…
March 18th, 2008 at 5:20 am
HOLY FUCK THIS IS GOOD NEW MUDHONEY! CANT WAIT FOR THE ALBUM! YEAH MARK! YEAH SUB POP!
March 18th, 2008 at 10:58 am
That was the other mike… the lower-case one. I’ve never seen Mudhoney or the Melvins because well, I suck.
March 18th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
oh, yea. I thought I recognized you. I just thought you were Bryan Brown’s friend. Didnt make the Buddyhead connection. I trust the ‘head’s music taste for the most part and I guess we were all go to these things with different expectations. I knew Flipper was gonna suck and they did. I mean, the guy broke a string in the first song and blew 10 minutes of their set. It was funny at least for like 5 minutes but their whole presence there was less exciting than the Dalek video. As for Mudhoney, they really sounded kinda weak and not very tight. They really didnt have the energy they once had. You know when you show up at a party where everyone is fucked up and you are completely sober? Yea. Weak. I think that if your favorite Melvins song is either their Wipers, KISS or Alice Cooper cover, then you need to take a minute and check them out. It took me years to figure out what the hell they were/are doing. There’s a reason that Cobain said they’re “the past, present, and future of music.” Mudhoney was just trying to cash in on what the Melvins invented/allowed for. Who’s in it for the right reasons? Who’s still relevant and frighteningly awesome? I mean, the Melvins are the promise of late era Black Flag come to pass. Mudhoney is pretty good cheeseburger. The Melvins are full course meal at a 5 star. Listen to their live Houdini. it’s like a tornado. sorry for my rant…
March 18th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
more rant. im all riled. seriously, i think Tool owes alot to them as well. You’ll never see them play badly. Catch them on a great night and the low end will rip through you like a panic attack. There’s no other band that’s done what they have or can play like them. They have no peers. There is no drummer like Dale either. I mean, Mudhoney is a footnote in their history. Im going to go listen to the Melvins now.
March 18th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
I gotta say, one can like both Mudhoney and the Melvins. I’ve seen them both live (but not together) and they both kill.
I also don’t think that as bands they’re really so similar; Mudhoney’s sound is leaner, faster and has more swagger than the Melvins, while the Melvins are heavier and more experimental. They’ve both got great senses of humor. But I wouldn’t say Arm and co. really do much Melvins-biting.
oh, yeah and Tad is pretty sweet too.
March 18th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
I just meant that Melvins allowed for Nirvana and Mudhoney wanted Nirvana’s success. They’ve admitted it.
March 19th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Who cares who won the show, what is this football,I’ve had the honor of seeing both the Melvins and Mudhoney live, and they both kill,I personally think a Melvins/Mudhoney bill would be like the Battle of the Titans on the top of Mt.Olympus, but instead of their being a winner of this battle,it instead destroyes the world and existence as we know it,and I hope to one of these days see a joint bill between these two bands,as I love both bands,I wouldn’t mind seeing Flipper too, that would be rad!!!

I was just rocking out to “overblown” on the Singles soundtrack. Yes, this is an invitation for everyone to discuss the Singles soundtrack.
March 24th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
the singles soundtrack is inferior to the Hype! soundtrack.
