New live Clash movie from Don Letts
The dude who made that killer Clash movie “Westway To The World”, Don Letts, has a new documentary called “The Clash Live: Revolution Rock” airing on PBS in March (check www.theclashonline.com for PBS air times in your market) and hitting stores as a DVD on April 15th. I haven’t seen it yet so I dunno if it’s good or not, but I’ll let you know how it is once Uncle Scott drags me to see it. Dig on what the press releases said….
“The film follows the live transformation of the band, incorporating footage from all phases of the Clash’s meteoric career, beginning with live-in-the-studio clips and climaxing with a blow-out performance at New York’s Shea Stadium in 1982. With rare and previously unreleased footage from all over the world, this film documents the history of the band by showcasing their incredible live performances, and will be a draw for both the new fan and their established passionate followers.”
Sounds killer to me. Here’s the trailer:

sorry, but you’d think the sound of someone reawakening from the dead would slay a lot harder than this

Killer indeed. It’s funny how the awful Cut the Crap album from 86 or so has basically been erased from every Clash fan and filmmakers memory, like it never existed. Granted there was no Mick Jones on it. Looking forward to this one.

Don Lets also made a shitty generic disorganized documentary about punk rock called “Punk: A Revolution” or something. There was a colon in the title and the cover had a big mohawk on it to let you know it was about punk rock. Anyway, Donny put himself in the movie as an influential part of the punk rock movement because he had a radio show or something. I’m just wondering if he lets evryone know how important he thinks he is in this movie too.

That live version of ‘Complete Control” is the greatest thing Ive ever heard. Seriously, get “From Here to Eternity” and read all the liner notes. Those live cuts would make me want to explode. I can see why their concerts were as crazy as they were. Also, the flying squirrel man is very awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmZyB_ghpa0

I’m not Don Letts’ PR guy or anything, but he did dj at the Roxy and is responsible for exposing alot of punks to Dub and Reggae jams. That’s kinda huge when you consider the Jamaican influence on the Clash musically, visually, and weed-ally. “Westway to the World” does also shit on whatever that last Strummer documentary was called.

Punk: Attitude was pretty lame. Way too much Rollins for my tastes, and it included rap/metal for some reason that I could never understand. I thought American Hardcore was lame too. How the hell can you make a doc about American Hardcore and NOT include the Dead Kennedys or the Misfits?

Well, apparently someone didn’t see the movie, ‘cuz Jello’s in the movie for an incredibly large amound, plus it shows live footage of DK performing “Nazi Punks Fuck Off”.
However, i was incredibly bummed out by the Limp Bizkit footage and the clowns from Agnostic Front. They’re the reason hardcore became a fraternity for jock-strapped meatheads.

That’s *amount*, although a mounds bar sounds good right now.

um…
I was talking about the American Hardcore movie not including Jello, not the Punk: Attitude doc. You might want to read a little closer.

Touche. Well don’t i feel like an idiot.

No worries bro, it was my fault for mentioning Limp Bizkit in a post for The Clash. Rap/metal has a way of short circuiting logic and reason.

so i’m disappointed that pbs didn’t show the whole documentary.i went off and bounced around in my apartment to the live stuff though.(its about time!) i like the dude doing the graffiti work while the band played on tom synder.now that is something we will not see today…at least it’s in closed caption.
