Glee As Fuck
My name is Vishal and I don’t really write that many posts here. I’m the web guru who makes all that you see work and don’t get paid a dime for it. But that doesn’t really matter. I’ve got a cozy job and appreciate Buddyhead and all that it stands for yadda yadda.
Anyways…a close friend of mine just told me about a group called the Blue Ribbon Glee Club which I thought would be worth mentioning. These guys hail themselves as Chicago’s first punk rock choir. Pretty badass if you consider how many punk rock choirs exist…I don’t know…very few to none? These dudes do a pretty entertaining a cappella cover of Fugazi’s “Waiting Room” as well as “Where Is My Mind?” and “Spanish Bombs”. If someone threw some bucks at these guys they might be able to record something as nice as TV On The Radio’s rendition of “Mr. Grieves”.

That’s fucking rad. Made me think of Extra Action Marching Band… they ought to do a split together or something. Y’know, prove that both choirs AND marching bands can be badass… who knew?!

I’m gonna add their version of “where is my mind” to my “bum-out DJ set”. That played loud through a PA would be killer.

the “waiting room” cover is good and funny. “where is my mind” was not so good, but since they ARE a “punk” choir, i can’t really complain about gang-vocal quality.

Man, that Waiting Room version is badass…I’ve gotta tell my fellow acapella mates to sing that. Thanks for postin’ this !!

Waiting Room by far is the best, they’d be good too sing at my funeral…like this is the stuff they should be teaching at highschools, and replace fuckin’ Sabbath [ marching band steez], with this stuff.

This is kinda cool, but being the nerd that I was in junior high and high school choir, I don’t think I could listen to their clashing pitches for an entire song. Hurts my ears, but it’s good to know about. holler.

well, those recordings are from the first performance ever, we, I mean they…sound a bit better now. I, uh…have a friend who told me. yeah, that’s it. I’m not in it or anything. that’d be ridiculous.
