Pink Floyd - “The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn” 40th
Like that big fat rapper dude I can’t remember the name of: “And if ya don’t know, well now ya know”… er sumpthin… The best new releases are always re-issues of old ones, and here’s one I’ve been waiting on for quite awhile. Pink Floyd finally decided to quit dickin’ around, and to celebrate the 40th anniversary of it’s original release (damn that’s a long time ago) they’ve finally put out their debut album “The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn” on cd in the far SUPERIOR mono mix version. It sounds hard to believe if you’ve never heard it this way before, but the mono version of this album just has way more depth, clarity… and is just… better. It isn’t really easier to explain than that, but I guess a solid example would be… Stereo mixes in 1967 were kinda like 5.1 mixes are now. They were basically considered a “fad”, and only made to cater to a very select audience. So the mono mix was the one the band (especially Syd) were the most involved in… Adding distinct sound effects that weren’t on the stereo version. You can actually HEAR the drums clearly here, and all the cool little nuances Syd Barret was doing on guitar. So yeah, this new version comes as a part of a 3 disc set with the stereo mix as well that we’ve heard a million times before on a separate disc, and another disc containing all of their 1967 singles… “Arnold Layne”, “See Emily Play”, and “Apples And Oranges”… Plus the B-sides “Candy And A Current Bun” and “Paintbox”, and some alternate versions of “Interstellar Overdrive”. A lil complaint here though duders… Where the fuck is “Vegetable Man”, “Lucy Leave”, “Two of a Kind” etc etc? Pull yer head outta yer ass, tell Roger to quit playing with his laser lights and huge inflatable pigs, and get this shit out already, mmmmk? I’m guessing this will all come out in that 437 disc box-set that we’ve heard is supposed to come out soon? Whatever. Let’s do this.

Josh, just when I think you can’t say anything dumber than your last comment you prove me wrong. Congrats!

Dude you’re not down with King Crimson? Seriously if we’re talking old school prog-rock, I’d take In the Court of the Crimson King anyday over anything Pink Floyd has made. Not that I have anything against Pink Floyd. I think Floyd’s best stuff was without Syd though and I’m bummed King Crimson doesn’t get as much love as Pink Floyd.

Yeah Floyd pwns Crimson, let’s not be ridiculous. All I ever hear when people talk about King Crimson is “In the Court of the Crimson King”. That’s one fucking record!

The fuck man, compare Pink and King all you want, but this first album is nothing like King Crimson, it’s not even the same fucking genre. This album is a psychedelic record, and an ace one at that!
