Prince can solo better than you…
I’ve never been a huge Prince fan. Sure he’s talented… but I’ve just never really gotten into his music or him. Until yesterday when my friend showed me this video of Prince just killing it. Dude just solos-right-now over "While My Guitar Gently Weeps " during the Tribute to
George Harrison. Check out how bummed Tom Petty is when Prince just keeps shredding over the part where he’s supposed to sing and George Harrison’s kid starts laughing. The best part is how he leaves the stage… takes his guitar off, throws it and walks off without looking at anyone. Fuck, Prince is totally cool.
Has Prince made any good records lately? Anyone here a Prince fan?

there’s always one or two great songs on even the worst prince records but sometimes it’s hard to hear them through the early 90’s funk production rut that he seems stuck in … but that being said “sign of the times” is an amazing record…

Must second “Sign O’ The Times”. Bad ass. I always said that Prince is one of the most bad ass guitar players EVER. Homme should snag him for the next Desert Sessions. I went to the opening of one of his studios in Minneapolis in the early 90s. Big party, super crowded, everyone waiting for him to show up. Finally at about 1:00am he rolls up in some purple LOW RIDER, hops out smiling and shaking hands, and yelles out “LET”S HAVE SEX!” to everyone there…..later on, when I had a chance to tell him that his studio was pretty cool, he glanced at my Black Flag tee and said “My War” with a smile. Prince owns. even though he’s made some shitty music.

3121 came out last year, had as many killer tunes as it did shitty ones. the title track and black sweat are both fucking awesome songs definately worth checking out, the last song has a cool james brown funk feel to it, and there are a couple really good latin/cuban jazz sort of things if you can dig that… it ceretainly wasn’t Prince’s “comeback” album though which is a total buzzkill. but if you can find it in a used bin for like $8 i’d say it’s worth picking up. probably way better than any funky/r&b bullshit that comes out lately in that it’s actually cool to listen to. especially if you want things to get kind of sexy…

yeah, travis get sign o the times. that shit slays. i actually met prince a few years ago. a friend of mine from high school was doing FOH stuff on his tour and i got to hang out for awhile. prince was rockin fucking 13’s on his guitar, and it’s a telecaster too which is just nuts. he was doing like 2 step bends and shit too. thats pretty crazy for such a little dude.

Yeah that performance was definitely badass. And “Sign O’ The Times” is a really great album, but I think I prefer some of Prince’s earlier (pre-”Purple Rain”) shit. “Dirty Mind” is a great little funk record with really cool songs all about incest, threesomes, and blowjobs. The production might sound a little dated now, but the lyrics, grooves, and attitude are undeniable.

He did have an album come out last year which was not so impressive. His best work has been done already, but he still writes songs and produces for other artists.

Didn’t Prince go all Jehovah’s Witness and stop having sex? I’m more interested in his fuck record days. You HAVE to hear the song “Erotic City.” It’s an amazing B-side that’s funkier than James Brown’s corpse (too soon?). P-Funk also does a serviceable cover of “Erotic City” as well.

If you listen back to the album version the solo ends the song. There is still singing in the background, not as up front as Tom Petty’s. More than likely that is how they rehearsed it; I doubt Petty was pissed. Prince did kick ass at that concert.

I used to hate prince up until about a year ago.That’s when I bought Purple Rain(The Soundtrack) at Walmart for about 9.99 after Tax.This album is a work of art.
Sure it has all the horrible 80’s production and whatnot,but that’s also what gives it this otherworldly vibe.Check it out if you haven’t already.
